It's my impression that the "respect for JSB" bit refers to Johann Sebastian Bach, considered one of the best composers of his or any time period. While his symphonies are generally not as iconic as some of Beethoven's work, none would dare leave him off a who's who list.

And no, I will not link to the wikipedia page about him.

I talked with him on Facebook for a bit. He was going to law school, IIRC.

He was definitely the most entertaining "best player" role to exist in the DDR community. None of the tournaments post-JSB were as entertaining because none of the players who surpassed him had the same antihero qualities, nor did they possess such a distinct personality.

Apparently one time an arcade manager was giving closing statements during a tournament and JSB kept interrupting by saying "condom" via the other mic. Someone else pulled a knife on him, too, at some point, in an unrelated event.
