    Sega got hacked.

Hackers gained access to SegaPass and did some stuff. Read on here

If you're not bothered to read all of that... LulzSec claims they were not responsible for this, and have offered to "help" Sega by taking down whoever hacked them.

A letter was sent by Sega to users of SegaPass stating that "We have identified that a subset of Sega Pass members' e-mails addresses, dates of birth, and encrypted passwords were obtained. To stress, none of the passwords obtained were stored in plain text. Please note that no personal payment information was stored by Sega, as we use external payment providers, meaning your payment details were not at risk from this intrusion."

    So chaps, who's next?

On the upside all this bullshit is eventually going to force lazy corporations to implement some ****ing web security 101 before someone does something excessively malicious.

I find it funny and strange how major corporations like this are getting hacked so easily.

Well, there aren't any "How not to get your giant-ass company DDoS'ed by teenagers: For dummies" books out there as far as I know.
They can't be sitting ducks forever. The consequences of being hacked affects the entire company -sensitive information and whatnot- so they have to take some measures, possibly short of staving the entire customer base access to their servers.

So the question for all these corporations is How the heck do we stop dem hackers?

Doesn't look like these guys got much or will use any of the things they had access to. Just an attempt to copy-cat PSN I bet.

The same way a lot of the simpler hacks got easily stunted a few years back. Those snotty little pricks grow up and need a job so they start working in internet security fighting the next gen of little pricks. In six years these methods will be outdated and we'll have a new hacking theme in some other industry.

DDoSing isn't hacking, it's just loss of availability

Design your websites using libraries that provide sane security on the web by default

                  ^

And really now, pretty much every "omg this site got hacked" story since Sony has really been pretty lame, they aren't even taking anything of use at all, not even remotely newsworthy. They're just exploiting holes that lead to nowhere.
