    Ew religion.

My mom keeps telling me that Jesus loves me when I've clearly told her I don't believe in that crap. How annoying. I don't need people on FFR telling me the same shit.

Hell of a double-take I just did there.

You hold your claim constant and warp the evidence around it or demand more.

In this case, the guy (forgot his name) is moving the goalposts by saying "Ok well NEXT time will REALLY be Doomsday!" This is literally all he can do each time he is shown to be false. You can't prove the Doomsday guys wrong until the day actually rolls by, but even when it does and nothing happens, people will make up additional reasons to hold their general hypothesis as true despite the contradictory evidence.
This is why I got confused when he used it out of context. I think it's more important to understand his intent than the semantics, though. However, if he really meant it that way, I really feel like he shouldn't be posting here at all. Honestly, when I was using my quotes, I was quoting it in the context of which he was probably using it. I don't even know it kind of confuses me because it doesn't make much sense. I feel like if he were to make such claims, at the very least he should provide examples, even if they were incorrect. It's a really vague statement and very unclear to me. Maybe it's just the heat, but I'm just getting more and more confused on what he's trying to say.

As far as I can tell he was equating "move the goalposts" with "change."

The point though is that you can either change to incorporate new evidence or you can change to avoid it.

Of course, people like Harold Camping will do anything to perpetuate completely insane bullshit for a quick buck. It's a real shame that money gets malinvested into stupid crap like this when it could be put into something that actually provides utility to people instead of just fearmongering and lunacy.

I think 2 + 2 = 43. Lets argue that point. I don't care how much evidence you provide, but I will always believe it to be true because 'my' beliefs are set in stone and therefore must be correct.

lol No, that sounds more like someone who is too stubborn or unwilling to be open to the truth. You really can't expect that to be everyone's mentality with/for religion, or reason behind having religion. People like that have no idea how to segregate their beliefs from real life. This (your remark) counts for A LOT of people, so it's not like you're off the mark - but creating a pool like that isn't realistic. But I otherwise understand your generalization, and see where you're going with it

                But 43 . . . Man, c'mon . . . *shakes my head* You're clearly off by 21.

Except you can't provide evidence that atheism is accurate and correct.

Uh, duhh, Reincarnate! How else does Lucky Charms, the greatest cereal in existence, have a mascot? I mean, whoever proposed the idea to General Mills had to have said,

"Hey, I got this idea for the BEST cereal! It's going to be like Cheerios, but with marshmallows of various shapes. Lucky Charms! Eh? Eh?"

"I like it! How will we market this?"

                              "Pfft! With leprechauns of course!"

"How do we know it will appeal to everybody?"

                              "Catchphase?"

                              "Shoot."

                              "Wonderfully delicious?"

"Too ordinary. We need something that everyone can believe in . . ."

                              together - "MAGICALLY DELICIOUS!"

"On the button, Kip! Magic is real!"

Kip would of been fired for pitching that if otherwise
