    Data in Lost Computer

    I have this computer, see.
It works fine. Problem is, the screen doesn't work anymore.
I mean, its the only thing wrong with it, and I can't fix it.

I wanted to send it off to some computer repair shop to
get the screen fixed, but the data on it is so precious to me
(pictures and stuff) that it made me think: "Nu-uh! I can't send my laptop
through the mail! If it gets lost, I'll never see it again!"

So I was wondering if anyone knew any way to get the data from my hard
drive..without dismantling my laptop in any way.

Or the alternative: maybe someone knows a trustworthy place that can fix my
    laptop that I can trust.

For laptops (I know you have one because you mentioned it in the last two sentences), what you can do sometimes is you can hook it up to an external monitor using the normal cables for that sort of thing, though the catch is that the monitor would need to be plugged in. It's what we did for my brother after he sat on a laptop on accident and the LCD screen shattered. (He's a big kid.) The laptop's keyboard and mouse pad still work, the monitor output is just getting sent elsewhere.

Also, quoting yourself in your signature seems extremely tacky to me. Just my two cents.

Great. Now I gotta hide my sig. I don't got a picture to put there, ya know?
And quoting someone else, well..its just not my thing. Cause its hard to find good quotes, that's why.

Anyways, back on point. You said connect my laptop to an external monitor with some cables? Well my laptop is a HP Pavillion type dv4 1140-go with Windows Vista installed. So there's a starting point.

Monitors usually come with all the necessary hardware you'll need to hook it up to the main processor if you know where to go. The cables and power cord are included in the cost of a good monitor these days, but as much time as I spend on the computer, I'm no techie. Once you buy it, though, it should be as simple as making the connections, plugging in the monitor, and starting up the laptop to add the new hardware (I know XP auto-detects this stuff, so Vista should as well, as infamous as it is).

Congratulations, your laptop has become a desktop.

Yeah, what rhythm said, but also, if your has a HDMI cable input, and you have the cable, you can make your TV (that also has a HDMI input) the computer screen.

          This is just another solution.
