    Re: Elections Canada 2011

It was the House of Commons that chased him out, not the Canadian people.
It's just sad that the majority of Canada doesn't want the Conservatives, but they got in anyways.

        Re: Elections Canada 2011

Votes should be reserved to people who knows what they're doing because it's messing up the statistics. I'm saying this because I don't know what I'm doing and it's probably how's the majority thinking. You guys are the 1% who's probably right but will fail because the 99% is not informed correctly. Politics should be banned of using marketing approaches to get votes and should be forced to point out directly facts and/or a different way should be used to vote. They should ask you to go to some meeting before voting and talk about politics with 20 random people or something and then vote. I bet the votes would be completely different.. I did find information but it was relative like hell and nearly pointless because it gives only a general idea which is probably not reality.

ps: I voted conservative based on a misunderstanding. /fail

There are a lot of people that complain that a vote from a retarded uneducated person is worth the same as someone who closely follows politics and entirely understands the election process.

Resident political know-it-all here! Tah dah!

Believe it or not, we have that here in a America in a few states during the primaries. In fact, Iowa is famous for it (because it usually is one of the lead off states.) Its called a caucus. Studies show that there is no real differential between the people who go vote in caucus style elections and open polls. Why? Because the people willing to "further educate" themselves are often more polarized and set in their ways. The ones more open to change and the sway of votes are actually the ones least interested.

              You can't win, bitch! Muahahaha!

That seems to be the only solution. Let us all go to Greenland.

Seriously, though, I'm really anxious about what's going to to happen next. I for sure do not want death punishment by electrical chair and anti-abortion laws. I also do not want my college tuition to go up xD. I'm going into college next year and the next few years are going to harsh for my wallets. At least, my parents are willing to help me out.

                  Elections were highly disappointing.

I'm considering moving to Sweden or Norvegia if things get worst lol.

Well of course not, especially if Harper keeps turning a blind eye to the oil companies and if Layton continues to threaten them with the idea of cleaning up their act. I was recently at my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary, and a few relatives from Alberta were there. They were telling us about how so many people in Alberta are rubbing boners for Conservatives, and my grandmother even said that when her sister had phoned to chat the week before, she had told her not to vote for "that socialist" and instead vote for Harper. I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

                    Saskatchewan won't likely either.
Saskatchewan is more likely to get out of this Conservative slump though. Of the 14 ridings in this province, there were 13 Conservatives and 1 Liberal in the last election. That Liberal happens to be Ralph Goodale, so he's typically bound to be elected again and again due to his popularity, although his win margin during the last election was much greater than in this one (last night I saw it at 3-400 votes). Saskatchewan is pretty torn between the Conservatives and the NDP, but I know that one other riding went to the NDP. From what I saw of the election coverage, the Conservatives didn't really run away with any of the ridings. Quite frankly I hope it's a step in a new direction for this province.

Nor will New Brunswick, most likely.
I pay less attention to what happens in the east so I don't know about this one.

I just found this map of the election that compares with 2008, and it's interesting to see how some provinces shifted dramatically while others didn't change at all.

Hopefully Layton proves to be an excellent Opposition leader.

new brunswick has always been 50/50 actually. recently though, the greater moncton area has been turning conservative. it's easily changed though, just depends who can say more shit about the other team. people here are gullible

I am honestly extremely pissed about these results. I can't vote, and I am glad to see the NDP rising, however I can't stand how people keep voting Conservative even though Harper's been ****ing up so much.

                        This is ridiculous.

                          Re: Elections Canada 2011

From the university students friends that I asked, the majority (myself included) voted NDP, yet Conservatives dominated ontario. My reasoning for NDP was simply that I did not want Harper to win because he's basically driven the cost of living high to the point that my parents are forced to move out of Toronto, and into their other home in Wasaga beach.

So I looked at one of the official polls on the eve of election, saw NDP had ~31% preference and went for the NDP. Sad to say that it didn't work out, but oh well.

I found it interesting when CBC showed the student version of the election, the U-18 people whos votes don't count. It was in the neighbourhood of 500,000 students that voted, across Canada, and the screenshot I took resembles a pretty accurate margin of what's happening:

It's interesting that they saw this happening before it happened; and that the conservatives had a much smaller lead.

cost of living is stupidly expensive and I don't see it changing anytime soon, even if ndp/liberals form a coalition. I can barely afford electricity because it's so expensive. I'm starting to think the hydro quebec deal with new-brunswick wasn't such a bad idea.

Hydro is totally provincial matter over there too right? Why blame Harper (I'm only assuming you're inferring it) for shit out of his control?

I've heard a lot of Harper bashing over the past few months but I've never even heard somebody bring up any point other than rising tuition costs which as far as I know are another provincial issue, and the NDP has been raising it in Nova Scotia IIRC. Can somebody please tell me why Harper is so bad because at this point it's just looking like a bandwagon to me =/. He isn't perfect, I completely disagree with spending money on fighter jets
