    Virus/Malware halp.

Somehow I managed to get the lovely "Google Redirect" virus which sends we to an advertisement or malware site when I click a google search result. I figured FFR is filled with enough computer nerds, so somebody has to know a good malware/virus remover. This has ticked me off enough, so I've dedicated today to getting rid of this little pain in the ascii.

I've tried a few googled fixes to no avail (I found a workaround if I copy and paste the URL instead of clicking the hyperlink). Any help is appreciated .

This is horribe horrible horrible and it gives me severe headaches from having to constantly reload things. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it so I just started using bing instead of google and firefox instead of internet explorer. It helped, a lot. But I would really like to know to get rid of the virus myself.
The weight of what I say depends on how you feel.

i believe you've got a root kit sir, try starting your computer in safe mode and running your anti virus program (or malwarebytes, which is a great free program) hopefully the root kit will be removed this way.

Ran a full scan in Malwarebytes in safe mode. Deleted 14 "objects." Still running into the same problems.

Avg 2011 has a rootkit removal tool. Try it in normal user mode and safe mode. Have heard good things about that and malwarebytes. You could try http://www.geekstogo.com/ and make an account and have them walk you through with very in depth strategies to get rid of your problems.

Actually nvm here is a thread with your problem. Looks easy to get rid of.

Make sure to follow that little guide on preventing future infections though it is helpful. And you're welcome.

                Re: Virus/Malware halp.

Use no script add on for firefox to get rid of the redir. Granted no script BLOCKS all sites by default. You will have to click the little S icon on the bottom right of firefox and manually allow each site you visit. Yeah sounds a bit tedious? It is, until u allow all sites u visit once. I had this same problem and even after editing out the suspected registry entries It still redir'd Did on IE and Firefox. Fresh install of FF same issue. The easiest way is going to be to reload ur system. After you reload install all ur security software and updates then install no script. Then disable autorun features of any PDF readers you have. Other than those things dont let ppl click on shit or install stupid things.

Download NoScript Security Suite for Firefox. The best security you can get in a web browser! Allow potentially malicious web content to run only from sites you trust. Protect yourself against XSS other web security exploits.

If it comes back ever then you will want to reload to make sure its all gone. Nice work on removal :3
