Anyone ever had a problem with them? I had only seen one flea my entire life until just about 2.5 months ago. The first 2 months here, I lived in an apartment with my boyfriend and his roommate who had a cat. He also had dog that he was taking care of for one of his friends. A big, 8 month old German Shepherd with fleas. Apparently he'd never been given a bath before and the area where the apartment was located was next to a wooded area, probably crawling with fleas.
Anyway, long story short, the fleas that the dog was bringing in + the fact that it was a one floor apartment building and we were stuck with the bedroom that had a door leading to the back near the forest.... The apartment was a huge orgy fest for fleas. And did they love the dog and cat more? Nope.
The fleas loved me more.
So for 2 months, I had to deal with flea bites all over my legs, arms, torso, and even on my neck and face. In total, I'd say I had gotten somewhere between 200-250 flea bites by the time we moved out.
So things have been going good so far since we moved in to someone else's house just for this month, till we go back to VA. Up until just a day or two ago, I guess.
Apparently some fleas must have hitched a ride on the guy's dog cause I've started to get flea bites again. Only about 3 or 4. But that's how it started back in the apartment. So, the good thing is, the entire house has wooden floors so the little bastards can't hide in any carpet... cause there is none.
So, if I'm right, the fleas are probably jumping onto me when the dog is near, biting me, and then hiding back in the dog's fur. But anyway... my real question is...
These flea bites aren't normal, they puff up and look pretty gross so my boyfriend came to the conclusion that it's probably an allergic reaction. Is it possible to be allergic to fleas? I dunno if he's right but I would've thought that I might have passed out by now if I was allergic. Also, does anyone have any sure fire way to keep them OFF me? Any medicine that will treat the bites really well or any that will get rid of the scars? Cause I have a ton of those...
Right now I'm using Triple Antibiotic Ointment to put on the flea bites if I accidentally rip them open while shaving... And also Calamine Lotion to soothe the itchiness. I honestly don't know if the ointment is working so if anyone has any better suggestions, let me know. Please.
