Usually, when I fall into a phase delay I can kind of force a reset by staying up for >24 hours and then going to bed at a reasonable hour when I'm falling all over myself.

This sounds similar to "chronotherapy" in that wikipedia article.

edit: Also I tried Provigil for a time and had reasonable success. This was actually an attempt to help treat sleep apnea, before they discovered my circadian rhythm was also out of whack.

          Re: Trouble sleeping

Normally when I can't sleep I will get out of my bed and do like, 15 push ups or 100 sit ups to force my body awake, but an exhausted form of awake. It usually works. If not then generally I lie flat on my back on my bed and go through my day or a story in my head with as much detail as I can and somewhere in the time frame that it takes I fall into a deep sleep from which I only wake when my alarm sounds.

However, I don't know if either of these fixes would matter if you did in fact have DSPS. :/

Rubix is right as always. You should start exercising regularly. I've just got back into heavy weightlifting again and needless to say, it's extremely exhausting. By the time I get back home, there are only two things on my mind, eating something, and sleeping.

My doctor diagnosed me with this when I was still in high school.

The only way I can manage to fall asleep is watching tv so that's what I usually do. I just throw on some random show and eventually drift off lol.

[Adult Swim] is by far the best station to help you fall asleep. The shows they air at night are so dull, that I'm knocked out within twenty minutes. Works like a charm, lol.

                  Re: Trouble sleeping

I've had really bad insomnia for so long. I'm always tired but then when it comes down to it I can't sleep. I'd be up for two days straight sometimes. Doctor put me on some sleep medication and had to up the dosage so often, so I'm taking the max amount. **** still doesn't help that much and it makes me feel horrible the next day/not remember anything after I took it etc, lol.

See a doctor if it's bad, it might help you even though it didn't help me. Other than that, if you can take anyone else's advice before you go to a doctor, try that. I hope you get some sleep

You should find someone that grows marijuana of Afghan decent. If not pure Afghani, than something close to it.

Heavy cannabis-indica plants that are native in Afghanistan tend to be lower in THC, and higher in CBD's which cause pain relief and drowsiness.

Just one maybe two hits at the end of the night, and you're out like a light.

But of course, drugs are bad right?

Try taking melatonin, you can get it in most drug store vitamin aisles.

Melatonin is the chemical in your body that controls your sleep cycles. It's what makes some individuals early risers, and others night owls.

I've taken it about 5 times, and every time except the first time, it knocked me out. The only "problem" is it creates really vivid dreams, but I like them.

Even though I don't smoke anymore (due to a hectic school schedule) I don't think there's anything wrong with it... But on topic, you should definitely start getting more physical. Start working out whether it's cardiovascular exercising, stretches, weightlifting, or sports.

THC can possibly lead to increased melatonin levels, so it an help out there too. A good toke or two can get you pretty sleepy, but you'll feel rather slow the next morning.

Did anyone else read the post where I said I work out 5 days a week?

And for the weed, I don't even consider it a drug (lol). I leave that term more for chems XD But I really hate smoking, and I would rather not if I'm going to be playing volleyball.

Melatonin: I might try it. Everything is worth a try. I assume it will work well.

Definitely try melatonin. Everyone (including me) who has tried this for sleep issues has had it fixed by taking it regularly, just take a proper dosage.
