Does anyone else think that things like this are just made up so death isn't as devastating of a thought compared to if you believe in no afterlife? lmao

I think a great number of people do. In my opinion this idea can easily have been the origin of religion.
There's a dramatic difference between being open minded and being tolerant. Tolerant is respecting something but not believing it. Opening minded is accepting it as outright truth.
I don't mean to be pushy, but I'm just speaking as someone who grew up around insanely spiritual people.
astral projection is only achievable after you have reached a high level of spiritual awareness
beyond negative emotions such as fear and anger

I never self-reflect, and therefore, I have no negative thoughts about myself. However I am also aware about my successes.
I don't think being open minded is quite that extreme starshot. Being open minded is just not being resistant to exploring new ideas and concepts. You don't have to believe them once you have thought about them.
most of our mores are instilled in order to cope with these negative emotions

Open-minded means you are willing to entertain new thoughts and ideas, and may even be willing to replace your own ideas if new ones seem better.
Personally, I see no reason to be tolerant/respectful of obvious crackpottery. If you're the type of person that still clings onto the geocentric model, I'm not going to "respect" your view. I'm going to say your view is complete and utter bat****.
I am astrally projecting myself into the frosting of a gourmet cupcake understanding what it feels like to be the starchy mix of sucrose and colored water atop a warm mountain filled with bready catacombs. I am now delving into the bready catacombs. I can feel myself going deeper and deeper surrounded by warmth until I have reached the indigestible cellulose border of this self-contained world.
