How many of you will be attending the Colbert/Stewart parody rally on the 30'th?
That's right mother****ers, it's on. If you can make it, word, you're awesome. If you can't, make a statement by donating to Donors Choose. It's a tad late for making plans, but I'm sure it's still possible.
The story thus far, lazy abridged edition
This whole thing started with a post on reddit, I've had a vision and I can't shake it: Colbert needs to hold a satirical rally in DC
Stewart and Colbert (known reddit reader) hinted at a surprise a few times on the show, but no one was sure whether they were for real.
So, they decided that dough speaks louder than words, and called on people to donate to donorschoose.org, a charity for which Colbert sits on the board of directors. At donorschoose.org, teachers submit projects for which they are underfunded, ranked by district wealth and overall need. When you donate, you can pick a specific project of your choice, or you can let them choose for you. In 8 hours, 1,380 unique donors raised$46,983 , shattering Hillary Clinton's total of 30K over the course of 2 years. 24 hours later, 100K was long gone. Then the facebook group exploded with members when national outlets picked up the story. Currently, 9017 donors have given $428,452, the largest non-corporate contribution in the website's history.
I donated $50 towards a teacher who had been paying for stationary out of pocket and got a wonderful letter from the students and teacher once the project was completed. So touching~ :*)
Several days later, the rally was announced for the 30'th of October in DC (a few steps below the famous spot where Glenn Beck once spoke), and here we are now.
Oh, what's that, you don't have a way to get there?
BAM
POW
carpools, caravans and charters. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
BUT GIGGLES, you say, WHERE WILL I SLEEP?
it's only like 3 hours long damn chill out
but if you live in Thailand and flying 12 hours a day ain't your thing, there's a bunch of hotels around the area. Or you can couchsurf.
edit: ten million edits later i get all the [url] tags working
