    Another computer problem. Dammit.

You guys sick of me asking for help with my crappy computers? Yeah, I'm sick of having to ask lol

Anyway, its not letting me on the internet (Im on my mom's). Its plugged into a hub, which is plugged into my wall. Its the exact way my mom's is set up. I have vista (horrid mistake, I need to downgrade) and it says that my pc is connected to an unknown network, and then its not connecting to the internet. It gives a little map that looks like this:

    DAMIEN-PC ---- unknown network --x-- Internet

Ive tried messing with things on my mom's computer, Ive messed with the hub, and Ive tried repairing my connection after every single step Ive taken to try to fix this.

This has happened before, but I would just come on my mom's computer and remove a connection from the network bridge (whatever the hell that is) and then my computer would be good as new again. Now its just not connecting no matter what I do.

What confuses me even more is that its going Computer>Hub>Wall... My mom's computer should have absolutely nothing to do with my connection, should it?

Thanks for anyone who tries to help, and major mothereffing thanks to anyone who can fix this.

What kind of Internet connection do you use? If you use dial-up or PPPoE, you need to enter extra information to get a connection. Otherwise, look if Vista isn't seeing any other networks. That unknown network might simply be your ethernet card being detected as a network (does that on my comp). If that still doesn't solve it, try resetting your router/modem/hub and installing Windows updates.

So does your house have a Lan wired through the walls or what? What is the hub? If it is a router it doesn't make sense to me that each computer would be plugged into it's own router and then into the wall.. Which would need to go to a router.

        1) Press Windows Key + R
        2) Enter 'cmd'
        3) type 'ipconfig/all'
        4) Type in your Default Gateway into a web browser

        Tell us what happens.

emerald - No, it cant find more networks, and I have broadband
Izzy - You plug this hub into the wall, and then you can plug a bunch of different ethernet cables into it, and it will give internet to them all
fido - I have no idea what a default gateway is

It'll show up after you do steps 1-3. It's one of the many things that will pop up.

It'll probably be something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

EDIT: Also try just plugging it through your enthernet port. It looks like a phone port but it has 8 thingies in there.

Did it fido. It said 'Invalid adress'. And this seemed wierd to me. My gateway was 0.0.0.0 Sorta seems like that means theres nothing there, not that I would know.

EDIT: Tran - Possibly? Im just calling it what my grandpa did, cause he's like.. THE computer guru (His team put the first whole megabyte on a single harddrive, and they made the first writable CD) so, I believe whatever he says xD

What are your TCP IP settings? Right click your connection and go into the properties and check the TCP IP properties.

That's the problem, your USB adapter thing isn't being read by your computer at all. Can you give me the name of this device?

EDIT: Rubix. He just did it in a different way using the method I showed him. The problem is defiantly the computer and the USB device not communicating.

Rubix - The only thing with TCP IP in it I could find said 'NetBIOS over Tcpip Enabled [then there was another section, value], Yes (So its enabled).

"Oh, just my cock." Replied Foil.
"That just will not do." was keywii's response as she lunged for the scissors, pulled the blades apart, and clamped them down on the base of foil's shaft. Blood start gushing out of the wound where his penis used to be.
                        "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Yelled Foil in horror.
"Don't worry. I'm a wizard" uttered Keywii. And with that, Foil's penis grew back.

                          lol I read this wrong.

Where's the modem in your house? Are you in an apartment and you share internet?

fido - The only thing I could think of to tell you about was my network adaptor. NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. Also, I dunno if this would have anything to do with this, but one of my devices in Storage Controllers had that yellow ! on it. AC6G5YWY IDE Controller.

Lol okay, that works too xD. Its right on top of my mom's desk. I live in an apartment, but each is like a separate house. We have our own internet, the neighbors have absolutely nothing to do with this

The IDE controller is for hardrives from like 5 years ago so you're not missing out with that. In that command prompt I told you to do, what's your IPv4?
