    Help Me With Math?

    I really don't know how to approach this problem, can somebody help me out?

    Solve for x:

    (x + 2)!
    -------- = 9(x + 2)
    x!

          Ok you wrote that weird. Is that supposed to be (x+2)/x=9(x+2)?

              well first you have to expand the factorial terms

              (x + 2)(x + 1)(x)(x - 1)(x - 2)...
              ------------------------------- = 9(x + 2)
              (x)(x - 1)(x - 2)...

              I think you can take it from here

                                  I'm showing him the easiest way to do it -- there's no need to expand **** when you can just cancel **** out

                                          well in order to cancel out you have to first understand WHY you can cancel them that way

                                          so while you showed him a solution, I taught him a concept

                                              He's basically right, after I saw what he did, I canceled out. I just wasn't sure how (x + 2)! expanded, really.

                                              EDIT: Even though this thread is finished, I bet it will derail.
