    Buying new computer D;

So, with the little money left over I got from financial aid, I've decided to get rid of this piece of crap, and buy a new desktop. I've asked around here and there, but I want to get a good computer for a good price. I don't really mind something expensive, but I want my moneys worth.

My budget is around $2,000. This is just the PC, I'm not buying a new keyboard, moniter, and the likes.

So far I have come across some interesting offers, one being:

    Computer 1:*
    IntelŽ Core™ i7 920 2.66GHz (8MB Cache) Quad Core Processor
Genuine Windows VistaŽ Home Premium (64 bit) + Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade
Single 1.8GB NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ GTX 260 192 Core

    500GB - SATA-II, 3GB/S, 7200RPM, 16MB Cache
Single Drive: 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
    Price: $1,349

    Computer 2:
    IntelŽ Core™2 Q9400 (6MB,2.66GHz, 1333FSB)
Genuine Windows VistaŽ Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit (Free Windows Upgrade)
    XPS Standard System Cooling
    nVidia GeForce GTS 240, 1024MB
    6GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs
    500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
    Price: $989

    Computer 3:
    AMD Phenom II X4 955, Socket AM3, 3.2GHz, 64-Bit Quad-Core, 4x512KB Cache
    ASRock AMD 780G, AM3, 8GB DDR3 Max, CrossFireX, RAID,1394, HDMI, S/PDIF, eSATA, Audio, GbLAN, Video. [ M3A780GXH/128M ]
    8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR3 at 1600 MHz Dual Channel
    GeForce GTX 295: 1792MB
    Western Digital 1000GB Serial ATA-II 7200RPM w/ 16MB Buffer
Blu-ray DVD Player Drive w/ DVDRW Rewriteable Combo
    Price: $1327.75

    Computer 4:
    Intel Core i7-950, LGA 1366, 3.06GHz, 64-Bit Quad-Core, 4x256KB Cache
    GIGABYTE Intel X58, 8GB DDR3 Max, CrossFireX / SLI, RAID,1394, S/PDIF, Audio, GbLAN. [ GA-EX58-UD3R ]
    6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 at 1333 MHz Triple Channel
    Geforce GTX 260: 896MB
    Western Digital 500GB Serial ATA-II 7200RPM w/ 16MB Buffer
    20x Dual-Format/Dual-Layer LightScribe DVDRW Driver
    Price: $1285.75

Am considering making computer 2 with 10,000RPM (which would jack up the price by $250).

My question is simply which computer is worth the amount of money I'm paying for it. Or, you could give me suggestions on getting a great deal. I'm in no rush to buy this because I want to make sure I'm making the best investment. Let me know! Thanks!

First you need to tell us what you're going to be using this computer for. That matters A LOT. If it's gaming which I think it is go with 3. AMD is much better for gaming and other media due to the differences in internal pipeline depth, but I doubt you want me to go into detail with that lol.

It's like choosing between having 6 inches and 9 inches. 6 inches does the job, but 9 inches makes you a stud

I bought a used tower for $200 with a 2.0ghz dual core AMD processor, 2GB RAM, 256MB video card (These are common) and I'm running WoW at 60fps with almost full detail. Unless you're playing Crysis or some other game that requires an overpriced computer go ahead, save your money and be one of the few post secondary students out there using their brain.

i lol at these threads, i am just gonna assuming you do graphic designs with your computer for even consider posting in this forum.
                        <flamemode>
2D, you dont even need most of what you listed if you are not into high quality mattepaint, or hq photo manipulation, so don't even post a thread about it.

3D, if you are a beginner, and you are gonna spend 2k on it, do some research on your own, much better than ask a forum on a flash game site, so don't even post a thread about it.
if you are not a beginner then you want workstations, so don't even post a thread about it.

anything else would not be relevant this forum, so don't even post a thread about it.

not dissing(k, maybe a lil), just being real.

you only need a 2,000 dollar computer if you're going to be doing playing some really intense flash games
