Re: Who's Right?
Holy **** I agree with Guru for once. Cop overreacted completely on a venial law. Simply stating that you cannot skateboard here and to please leave the premises is not that hard, I have seen plenty of officers handle a similar situation calmly.
Of course since the video started in the middle of the encounter I can't really make a statement of how the kid reacted to the cop at first and how the cop reacted to the kids skateboarding there.
But if the cop started harassing those kids on a whim without telling them to leave in a calm manner, then yeah he was definitely abusing his power.nahComment

Re: Who's Right?
An officer's job is always to uphold the law and keep a situation under control. By basically trolling/antagonizing the kid with questions like "Just ashamed of yourself?", that's just causing a disruption and making the situation worse, and was totally unnecessary given the situation's (lack of) magnitude. The kid should have just kept quiet and reported him later for his cocktitude. Granted, the cop was letting the kid off easy to begin with (which is what cops normally do with respect to warnings and such), but the kid was being a dumbass and basically killed any leeway he may have had.
Also, it was not necessary for the cop to use his foot to get the kid into the car, but given the cop's attitude, it doesn't surprise me. He may try to uphold the law by the letter, but his attitude is a little high-and-mighty (hell, just listen to the stuff he says as he's arresting the kid).
tldr: They both handled the situation suboptimally.Comment

Re: Who's Right?
On this subject
I'm still amazed that people aren't informed of their rights during police encounters.
You don't have to answer any question a cop asks you except to provide your name even if detained. You do not even have to provide your ID to a cop unless you live in one of the 24 states with a law that requires it in cases of police detention. Even after that you are under no obligation whatsoever to do anything but cooperate with lawful orders the police give. Asking you questions does not count as a lawful order. He who angers you conquers you. ~Elizabeth KennyComment

Re: Who's Right?
ugh, stop using rights. you don't have rights, you have privileges. if the person doesn't want to adhere to the enforcement request, then that person should be subject to whatever force needed. stop whining about what is fair. most of you here are probably stoner teens that hate enforcement because they ruin your fun times/parties. i can't help but think how people were treated by enforcement hundreds if not thousands of years ago. it's interesting how people's "rights" change and adapt to the will of the times or the person/people writing a few words on some parchment.Comment

Re: Who's Right?
You are absolutely wrong. Rights are for YOUR PROTECTION. Police officers exist for YOUR PROTECTION. The police are bound by law to respect your rights and to never ever break them. If they break them then they are the ones guilty of a crime.ugh, stop using rights. you don't have rights, you have privileges. if the person doesn't want to adhere to the enforcement request, then that person should be subject to whatever force needed. stop whining about what is fair. most of you here are probably stoner teens that hate enforcement because they ruin your fun times/parties. i can't help but think how people were treated by enforcement hundreds if not thousands of years ago. it's interesting how people's "rights" change and adapt to the will of the times or the person/people writing a few words on some parchment.
You give up your rights, you lose those protections granted to you.

If that is how you feel. I have lived with law enforcement all my life. I live and breathe laws... law enforcement is the biggest joke of all time. 80% of it is corrupt. Out of the 300+ cops i have met... only a few were truly moral. The others were complete wastes of a badge. My heroOriginally posted by Plan_Bsk81127FFR retards at their finest. gg

Re: Who's Right?
The cop is right to arrest him because he was trying to be polite and the kid like a typical half witted idiot spoke back to him. Was the cop right for kicking him or threatening him? Certainly not. They're both wrong. But the cop should have a higher sense of though not to do say something like that. Disappointing that the cop pretty much stooped to a lower level than the teenager. But I don't blame him.Comment
