I'm on 4GB and already noticing a tiny bit of memory lag every now and then.
I would have already upgraded to 6GB by now with an i7 processor, except that a friend of the family did so the day it came out, and he had nothing but problems, and eventually went back to a DualCore.
YoshiSlayer, not an "amazing" computer (better than my current one though), but a very good one, and definitely a great deal for only $800. Where do you work to get a discount like that?
IF I CAN CLIMB A TREE, I CAN CLIMB MT EVEREST. IF I CAN DRIVE A CAR, I CAN PILOT A SPACE SHUTTLE. IF I CAN PEE, I CAN BE THE PRESIDENT. IF I CAN POO, I CAN RULE THE WORLD!
RAM is cheap as chips nowadays. 6 GB of RAM is attainable for as little as $69 if you buy 3 2GB sticks. So it's kind of a "why not?" thing, especially when you get insane discounts like his.
I'd go with an nVidia video card to match the intel proc, but if I knew the mobo you were getting I'd have a better idea of what was more compatible with the chipset.

My neighbor had the i7 processor for awhile and hasnt had a single problem with it or the 6gigs of tri channel ddr3 ram. It might have been that your friend of the family wasnt running ddr3 ram tri channel ...thats key. And i work for disney...thats where i get my discount :P
Thought linux could handle over 4gb's as a 32bit operating system. I'm pretty sure that it can, but its recommended to use 64 bit if you are going to.
I also see those apple tower computers with 8gb's of ram or something, and I don't think they are 64 bit.
Don't really know much about that...haven't looked into it. Wouldn't surprise me as I know Mac can take a lot of RAM, and Mac is basically a butchered version of BSD-UNIX, and Linux is basically UNIX.
Also Clarinet. 2GB is usually enough for what you're doing. When I'm on Windows XP, running WoW, COD4-5 at full settings, I never even hit 2GB.

windows xp is very conservative with it's ram usage. Vista will use up unneeded amounts of ram to make things faster, and then will take away from those areas if there something that actually needs it. That's why vista will idle at around 1.8gb's of ram usage even when theres nothing going on. It isn't that it is intensive. Just more efficient.
