Alright, I'm having a problem with connecting two of my computers to a wired router. Some how, I'm only getting one to connect, and not both. I got both connected at one point. Not at the same time. My router's pretty old though too (I'd say somewhere from the late 90's?), so it could be that. But it worked fine before when I hooked it up for my PS2 and computer in 2007. What happens is, that both computers will acquire an IP address, and one will connect, but the other one won't. I tried fiddling with some of the settings, turning off one of the firewalls, but nothing came through. So I just gave up for now, anybody have any sort of solutions?

Re: Router Trouble
I would say to go for the cheapest. You don't seem like you need a particularly good router, so I would say going for the cheapest would be the best for you.Comment

Re: Router Trouble
Your problem is that your internet service provider only supports one mac address for the internet connection.
You should be able to configure your router entering your router's IP address into the address bar. Sometimes it has a default password already set that you need to enter before you can change anything and you might have to look online to see what it might be.
There should be a way to create a WAN mac address for your router so all the computers are only using 1 mac address. Just make the WAN mac address the same as one of the computers connected to the router. edit: It might be that only one computer's mac address will work, so just to be safe, use the mac address of the one computer that has been able to connect to the internet out of the two. edit again: Mac address is the same as physical address. Right clicking on your network icon and choosing status then looking on the support tab and choosing details should bring up the information you need to know. Your router's ip address is listed by default gateway.Last edited by dean_machine; 04-28-2009, 09:50 PM.

Re: Router Trouble
Does anything show up when you enter your router's ip address in the adress bar? It might be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 since that's usually the default ip address for it. Or here, I'll link them http://192.168.1.1/ - http://192.168.2.1/Last edited by dean_machine; 04-28-2009, 09:54 PM.

Re: Router Trouble
Well, you really should try to look online about configuring your router to see how to do it first before you go spending any money that you might not need to spend.

Re: Router Trouble
Alright lol, I understand. Just remember the WAN mac address thing though because not all new routers automatically clone the mac address for the WAN mac address (like a cheap belkin one I have).
