Who here is a Depeche Mode fan?

Their single "Wrong" just released, and I just found out they're coming to Las Vegas on the 22nd of August. Their new album lies just two months out. NIN and DM are far and away my two favorite bands, so I almost lost it at the news.

What about you guys? It's "New Music Tuesday" in retail. Got any new releases or concert dates you're anticipating or have recently gotten into?

I'm personally psyched about the new NIN/JA tour, and I'm hoping TR will be making a stop in Vegas. If not, I'll go wherever I have to, because NIN's disppearing for a while.

Oh and the new Prodigy album has a few really catchy songs. I don't think they'll ever match Fat of the Land, but they're still going strong.

Also, for fun, list music purchases you regret. There was a time a few years ago where I was regularly overdosing on antipsychotics without even being aware of it, and as a result went severely manic and made a bunch of bad purchase decisions. Most of them I'm too embarrassed to post. :P

..one really bad decision was to buy the Power Rangers soundtrack from the movie... what the **** was I thinking? Drugs do really funny things to a guy's head.

Re: Who here is a Depeche Mode fan?

Fat of the Land is a great album, and I agree, none of their recent stuff matches it. As for Depeche Mode, the only thing I listen to is Enjoy the Silence and the remixes off of their singles. Their other stuff is alright, but it's a bit too chill for me. To be honest, I've only heard bits and pieces of an album, so if you want to point me at their "best" stuff I'll give them another look The most recent update in my personal music spectrum is that blink-182 is back together and working on an album for the summer.

I've also had some crappy cd decisions that I will air out here so no-one will make the same mistakes I did. Here's the list in no particular order:
-Rappaz In Da Hood 4 CD box set *shudder*
-Confessions by Usher (I was young and stupid. It was $18.95!)
-A Gothic Acoustic Tribute to Linkin Park by the Gothacoustic ensemble
-Bunkka by Paul Oakenfold ($24 canadian)
    -The Love Below/Speakerboxxx
-Haunted Cities by the Transplants (not like blink-182 AT ALL)
    -Spawn the Album
    -X&Y by Coldplay
    -Crossfade (self-titled)
    -Los Lonely Boys (self-titled)

I went to go see Dragonforce live at the Palladium and, yes, they are that fast. I also was introduced to Turisas and Powerglove there, so that was a great night Mario Minor from FFR is by Powerglove.

      Oh, god that's rich!

Hmm, as for DM songs... it depends on what you're into. Each album reflects a distinctly different character. And aside from that, their earliest stuff is nothing like their albums from Some Great Reward and onward. If you liked Enjoy the Silence, that comes from the album Violator. I personally like their Songs of Faith and Devotion album the best. Very sensual yet driven. Their most recent album, Playing the Angel, has a pretty epic feel. I find it hard to recommend just a couple of things given that their core library of songs extends to about 200 songs and the remixes, rarities, and live stuff extends to over 650 songs.

Perhaps I'll recommend a few songs just to get you acquainted, since I don't know what all you might have heard:

      A Question of Time
      Stripped
      Dream On
      Strangelove
      Behind the Wheel
      Suffer Well
      Martyr
      Master and Servant
      I Feel You
      Walking in my Shoes
      Condemnation
      Useless
      World in My Eyes
      Blue Dress
      Personal Jesus

Many of my favorites are less "single-worthy" and there are quite a few that aren't part of studio releases, like the song Surrender, or Pleasure, Little Treasure.

I'd recommend looking through each album and finding which flavor of DM suits you best.

Go Barne's and Noble, they should have them there. They're like $1.99 a pop, and they're pretty darn good, just not carbonated, so they go down quickly.

                    bump for DM!

I got into them way back, and seen them play about 10 times in the US and Europe...

I even dig Gahan's, Gore's solo projects, and Wilder's band Recoil.

Hell, I date back to digging Speak and Spell and A Broken Frame

                    double bump

Oh yeah, Gore's Counterfeit EP contains hands down the best version of By This River, and Gahan's songs are really good.. I love Dirty Sticky Floors and Bitter Apple from the first album, and Kingdom, Saw Something, Use You, and Miracles stand out on his second (to me at least).

I love Photographic and a few others from Speak and Spell, and Broken Frame has a few incomparable songs. But Boys Say Go makes me want to scream. :P

PS - music video for Wrong.

Yes, I have listened just a bit to Recoil. It's an interesting project, though I think the popular opinion that Alan Wilder meant so much to the band that things went downhill after he left is ridiculous. He was a great contributor, but Martin has always been the heart, Fletch has been the soul, and Dave's been the voice of DM.
