    "Best Job In The World"...

Anyone who has recently checked the news on Yahoo should know this by now. Apparently, an Australian state is internationally performing a job search for a person to live on an island. And all you have to do is fulfill three requirements; be a good swimmer, have good communication skills, and be able to fluently read and speak English. Job details include island strolling, reef snorkeling, and enjoying a rent-free beach home complete with a plunge pool and a golf buggy, plus some minor tasks which include performing weekly blog/photo/video updates and occasional dealings with the media.

Undoubtedly the best job in the world. Who WOULDN'T want this job. :P

SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months.

The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday.

In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.

"They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said acting state Premier Paul Lucas.

"The fact that they will be paid to explore the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, swim, snorkel and generally live the Queensland lifestyle makes this undoubtedly the best job in the world."

Lucas said the campaign was part of a drive to protect the state's 18 billion Australian dollar a year tourism industry during the tough economic climate caused by the global financial meltdown.

"Traditional tourism advertising just doesn't cut it sometimes and we are thinking outside the box by launching this campaign."

Queensland Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said some people might question whether it was risky to let an unknown person become an unofficial tourism spokesperson for the state.

"I think the biggest risk will be that the successful candidate won't want to go home at the end of the six months," she said.

"This is a legitimate job which is open to anyone and everyone."

Applications are open until February 22. Eleven shortlisted candidates will be flown to Hamilton Island in early May for the final selection process and the six month contract will commence on July 1.

    Job-seekers can apply on .

I, as anyone else, would be all over that if the opportunity came up. Dunno how they'll go about picking someone though.

Oh wait, just read, the application is open? Going to apply now.

If I don't get this, at least I have my current internship in DisneyWorld to fall back on.

True dat. Island's probably rigged with cameras just to record you going insane. Still feels like the best job ever, nonetheless.

You're there for six months, and by day 3 you suddenly realize, "Holy sh*t, I'm stranded on an island for six months with no people WTF I QUIT I QUIT!!!"

I bet you this is what it is. They probably have horrible things set up for them and whatnot.

While on the island, you also have to do video and blog updates, meaning you have internet.

Who needs people when you have the internet?

Damn, I was really hoping that someone hadn't posted about this so that I would have a better chance at winning.

Still, I think that this job would be fantastic. I would love to spend a all that time on the beach, and to get paid to do it... This has got to be a great idea for Australia. Sure, they're spending a lot of money on it, but think of all the publicity they will receive because of it.

It's a publicity stunt to get more tourists to come to Australia. The idea is that whoever stays there will make those blogs and will make more people want to come to Australia. They know with this kind of job the blog is going to be positive.

Also, I already applied a while back (when I saw it in the paper). Krissy + me for 6 months rent-free. Who wouldn't try for that.

would be quite secluded, but i guess there is alot of people that would like being away from everyone.

That's amazing. I'm thinking of telling my friends about this so they can go in my place and tell me about it. Yet it seems so lonely at the same time to be there all alone for 6 months.
