    Computer help

    since there is no computer help sub forum im putting it here

    i got my laptop in april of last year and everything was fine up until octoberish. that's when my laptop started randomly shutting down on me an hour to two hours after turning it on. i thought it was a virus or something so i did some research and it turns out it was shutting down because of overheating. after i found out the problem i bought a cooling pad to see if it would help with the overheating and it didnt so i bought a mini fan, placed it next to the laptop fan i also took off the cap at the bottom to let more air in and i lept it on power saver so it wouldnt do too much work. recently though it's started over heating even faster and it's getting on my nerves

    so any suggestions as to how i can keep my laptop from overheating?

    any pats im going to have to replace?

    EDIT: it's a Gateway M-1624 notebook PC

      Download 'SpeedFan' and see if you can tell what temperature your parts are at...keep in mind laptops runs at higher temperatures than desktops so it'll always say fire hazard etc. You should be running at ~60C for laptop parts as far as I can recall, if anybody can check me on this that would be great. Try clearing it out of dust? Other than that call whoever made your computer and yell at them a bit I guess for giving you crappy hardware =/.

          the core is at 68-70C with power saver on

          it's also on a raised platform with the bottom cap off and the mini fan i have blasting full speed lol

              i just turned on my laptop and its cruising at a steady 72-74

              that cant be normal

                  Computer operating temps are actually surprisingly high.

                  Can you tell if your internal fan is working at all? Does it ever kick in and blow warm air out of the side of your computer?

                      You should definitely pour liquid nitrogen all over it.

                      Look into the space and if you could get another minifan installed.
                      My dad didn't think he could and they ended up finding enough room for 2 more really small ones that brought down the temp to the right amount. =)
