Re: hey you
i used to be the kind of person to always sit back and not say anything either in class though on tests i would get 100s ... but in defense of those ppl ... i must agree ... there were times even though i knew everythign that was going on ... when i participated in class i would get black outs ... like the teacher would ask a question and id be like uhmm ... come again? ... act stupid so to say ... and everyone would go hes gonna fail ... result : 105 ... extra credit question
remember those? lol ... but still i do as well hate it when ppl act ditzy like that ... its stupid so i must agree with this thread

Re: hey you
in high school i pretty much kept to myself about my grades because i didnt want people asking me for help. in college, i need as much help as i can get. i do say things like "i think i totally bombed that test" because i really do think that. but i usually end up passing. im not trying to act pretentious or anything, i just get really nervous and scared and psych myself out. it does help that im pretty good at making educated guesses. also, my dad used to pressure me do get all A's all the time - one time i got 3 or 4 100's on a report card and he got mad cause i had one B. he didnt even mention the 100's. but he stopped after realizing he was seriously messing with my head. i also dont freak out if i get a B or C or something (if i do, its probably cause i wasnt expecting to do so good). i dont freak until i get a 50-something.
some kid got 13% on one test.
my OChem 2 class average was a 50 -something. i thought i was going to have the retake this class from hell (i had like a 55) until i realized that the whole class was doing as bad as i was and our professor gave us a curve at the end of the semester. i had never been so happy to have a C in my life.Comment

Re: hey you
People bombing tests in college is definitely not unheard of, lmao.
In one math class that my roommate took, you'd *lose additional* points for not answering a question correctly PAST the baseline.
So the average on one particular exam was like 25%, and the lowest scores were actually NEGATIVE. Needless to say, that teacher was under pretty heavy fire.
Some people go into tests having no idea what to do, even when they study, and wind up getting extremely low scores. Midterms and finals in college can be *hard*, especially for difficult classes where your peers are all very intelligent. I remember for one of my Stat classes, we had this rather difficult exam (luckily I got like a 99% on it), but the average was like 85%. I thought that was just absolutely disgusting, considering what was on that test.Comment

I'm part Arabic, so should I set my standards as high since I'm part Asian? I wonder when we're going to start calling them southeast Asians, since Asia is much larger than China, Japan, the Philippines, and North and South Korea...
The Bulgarian part of me just wants to drink and forget it. /shrug, eastern Europeans....

Re: hey you
I have a few friends that don't know **** in class but get straight A's due to homework and test copying.
P.S. don't let really stupid kids copy your tests. I got a 0 on my Algebra II final in 10th grade cuz the kid had NO CHANCE AT ALL of getting ANY of the questions right but got 60% including 6 questions that only he and I got correct. And my teacher wasn't stupid and could obviously figure out what happened.
But I guess it's mostly my fault too lolComment

Re: hey you
I have someone like this in my pre-cal class, she constantly asks questions about things that are so blatantly obvious, it upsets me. >=/
Not to mention she's getting an A. =.=Comment

Re: hey you
I got straight A's until hitting college classes (taking them in high school), when hitting tests and not studying too much landed me with a few A-'s and a B+. This sucks because I used to be able to just coast and not do anything while still getting A's, but now I have to work in hard classes and it's annoying because I don't really know how...anyways, I have to fix that before going to actual college, especially if I get into some university that's awesome but also ****ing difficult. It's kinda bad at home because my dad is an immigrant from a village who has never gotten below a 99% (or at least 95, I don't remember) and is now a college professor...yeah. Pretty much I need to spend time working, and life will be good.

Re: hey you
Depends. If you have a considerable number of successful projects under your belt and can land an interview, all you need to do is wow them with your understanding of the material and your personality. At that point, the grades don't matter as much.
Truly, just knowing your **** will get you far. Having good grades merely opens up more opportunities for you to display what you know.Comment

Re: hey you
basically... high school is cake. even if you go to a really prestigious and top academic high school. i know this because i did.
college is not cake. especially if you go to a really prestigious and top academic college. i know this because i did.
although one time on my 1st semester java programming class, i didn't attend for about 3 weeks straight because it was easy. then i knew we had an exam coming up in the next week or so, so i went to class to catch up on the material... only to find out the exam was that class. i literally did not know the exam was that day, so clearly i hadn't studied. plus, hadn't been to class in 2-3 weeks. i spent 5 minutes before class cramming notes from someone else and wound up getting a 96. that was pretty awesome. but it was a REALLY easy class. as opposed to some of my physics classes where the class average on an exam was 47 (with about 320 people in the class). thankfully i never had to take o-chem.RIPComment

Re: hey you
The way I see it the people who are always asking blatantly obvious questions is because they don't actually know what they are doing, they just memorize how to do a certain thing a certain way.
For example: I am very good at mental math, but terrible at actually applying it to Algebra or Calculus where I struggle very much. But, the girl with the best grade in the class used to ask me simple multiplication problems because she couldn't do the math in her head. She just used application and a calculator to get her grade.
In high school for most classes you don't actually need to know what it is you are doing, you just have to know how to go about doing things right.

Re: hey you
good cause I hate kids that are constantly worried about grades and do ANYTHING to get an A even if it means cheating or copying work from others and couldn't give a crap of what they are learning. They will have trouble later in life if they continue to approach it this way.Depends. If you have a considerable number of successful projects under your belt and can land an interview, all you need to do is wow them with your understanding of the material and your personality. I personally hate high school more than I can express. It takes every ounce of my energy to focus on the work and ignore all the other crap in between. It's so fake and it approaches education the wrong way. It's all about comforming to the class. Some teacher's tell me how to organize myself and grade me on how well I do what they tell me to do. I think I would know how I would organize myself best. It doesn't teach helping others for the sake of helping others without expecting anything in return, which I believe is the most important thing in life.
I really hope college is better in that aspect. It sounds like it is.Originally posted by Staiaini am super purple hippoComment
