    Spammers vs. Lurkers

I am posting this poll on all of the forums that I go to. I already have an idea how each forum is going to respond, but for the veracity of science I need to make a poll regardless. ^_^

The point of the poll is not to question who you are, but rather your perception of yourself, as everyone has different standards; as such, I expect most people to be moderate, as I believe that just like in politics, most people are moderates. But also like in politics, most people like to side with one party, Democrat or Republican, and in this case I like to side with the Lurkers, even though I'm probably more of a moderate myself. Hopefully that makes sense.

If that doesn't make sense, here is my personal definitions of the three terms:

    Spammer:
    • A spammer is someone who reads a lot of threads on a forum and posts in every thread, or close to every thread, that he or she reads. The reply can be short or long (though usually brief) and may or may not answer the question; the defining quality is that the person posts in the thread, even if that post is as simple as "lolwut" or "I don't know, I never played the game." Spammers do not always spam whenever they post, but due to their high frequency of posting they tend to spam more than the average user.

    Moderate:
    • Moderates are people in between spammers and lurkers. As the term spammers and lurkers represent relative extremes of a dichotomy, most people lie in between the two sides, although many have tendencies to either spam or lurk. A person can be a "moderate" if he or she does not post in every thread he or she reads, does little spamming, or simply does not read that many thread in general.

    Lurker:
    • A lurker is someone who reads a lot of threads on a forum, but does not contribute anything to the conversation in the thread. This may be due to lack of interest in said topic, nothing to add to the conversation, or simply a desire to read yet remain silent. Because they contribute little to nothing to a forum, they usually do not have the sinister reputation that spammers have, but nonetheless a severe amount of lurkers will cause low activity on a forum which can be just as deadly as a spam overload.

So there you have it. Pick your poll choice, and then be willing to defend your point of view (whether it reflects your poll choice or not) in the discussion that will take place here. Which side is worse to a forum, excessive spammers or excessive lurkers? I would argue that spammers are worse because their effects are seen whereas lurkers' are not, but I have a clear bias as I am a lurker myself. :P

I'd say moderate. I have quite a bunch of posts but I lurk quite a lot too espically on other forums.

I"im definitely moderate as well. I used to be a lurker but gradually became accustomed to the FFR forums and became more comfortable with speaking my opinions.

Lurker. For my own reasons, I generally avoid posting in topics, even if they interest me and I feel a desire to post.

It's why I never start threads outside of the BB, or if they don't relate to such things as tourneys and listings.
