Bottom line, my theory proved
The world has a very delicate balance, for every smart thing that happens a dumb thing happens at the exact same time.

You can steal their information and hack their identity/paypal and go from there.
You can **** them over because you're a sick ****.
You are getting revenge on someone.
People didn't believe you when you said you could do it so you are proving it to them.
You are playing a practical joke on a friend.
You are experimenting and do not actually mean harm.
There are many reasons to send viruses...not that I've done it or anything...
Yeah. I guess shoulda asked for a "good" reason to send a virus, 'cause I can't think of any. The only real practical reason is to hack identity and cheat information off of people, which is, of course, unethical. But there are plenty of viruses that don't do that and just send annoying pop-ups and spammy things.

How is this theory "proved"?

Well, I think it would be hilarious to send a virus to a bunch of your friends that self extracts and directs to meatspin or something of the sort. After that, it would go away.

I watched something on TV a bit ago (on the news) about how they had discovered a flaw in facebook's application system that could allow practically any application you add on facebook to take as much information as it once. I mean, you see what things like Top Friends (they actually have their own Top Friends profile system) can do, can this be engineered so they can spread malicious software as well? The answer is yes. Anyone can create an application on facebook.
A flag right off would be that your friend supplied a address that you've never seen before. Of course, it could be a legit website... Try googling it. If I see a link that I don't trust, my trick is to run it through W3C Markup Validator and toggle the Show Source button. That way, I can see what's in the webpage I'm destined to view and stuff.
Now, hold on here... We're not done yet!
This image here explains that you have an outdated version of flash player. Note that the site claims to be youtube, as according to this website... But look closely at that image. The ratings of a video are not displayed above the video on youtube.
Take a look at this image. Notice the URL you're downloading from? Not adobe's website... If there was a flash player update, certain people would receive the update through a software prompt (an icon in their system tray), or by going to adobe's website to obtain the latest version of flash player.
