    Progressive rock

Can somebody tell me what it is? I've seen it everywhere but have no idea what it is.

Most if it sucks, to let you know.

It's also put onto bands that aren't really progressive rock, like Jethro Tull.

post-dumps abstractly represent the existential nihilism that the song invokes in the listener with negative space, evoking the ephemeral nature of the mind - the journey of stepmania begins in hope yet soon becomes corroded into a dialectic of futility, leaving only a sense of dread and the unlikelihood of a new synthesis

Progressive rock is a type of music genre that I have no idea about.

Progressive Rock was the movement started by King Crimson which all bands fall under, including Jethro Tull.

It's just that eventually there was so many bands that people had to try to differentiate between the bands in such a way that people could understand they were different, so they started creating sub-genres like Symphonic Prog / Neo Prog / etc.

Think of it like metal. A lot of bands can be classified as metal. You can classify Dream Theater as "metal" just as much as you can classify something like Slipknot as "metal". It's only when you need to differentiate between the two bands' styles that you say "well DT is progressive metal, whereas Slipknot is nu-metal", as such classification comes into order.
