...er, not quite
hundreds of thousands of japanese students are boycotting school, so in order to keep students (and child population from rising) from doing this, a randomly selected 9th grade class is selected to participate in a battle royale every so often. In the Battle royale, each student is handed a backpack containing food, water, and a random weapon, ranging from uzi to a paper fan. Each student has an unremovable necklace which keeps track of location and pulse. The object of the game is to kill all the other students in order to remain alive. if all the students save one are not eliminated, the necklaces blow up and they all die. Interesting psychological effects.
That is a weird spin on the book, then.

The best way to solve the problem is a 1950\'s Grease-esque hot-rod death race/musical. Not only will the Aussie Chicks be all sexing you up, but you will totally be idolized by every homosexual man in america.-Jewpin The Third
I've read the book, i have volumes 1-3 of the manga, and i own 1 and 2 of the movies (got it from rising sun creations in our mall for $14.95 each!)
oh and yes, battle royale 2 did suck, but i love the beach scene in the beginning.
i'm obsessed with battle royale
okay thats all cool and such but i have something that i need settled.
Who is cooler Kawada or Kiriyama? or who is the cutest battle royale girl?

Holy goodness I loved BR. The second one wasn't as good but still noteworthy, I'm actually trying to join a BR cosplay for Otakon where I'd be Chigusa.
im going to cosplay kawada at comic-con, oh, and kawada is muchly cooler than kiriyama.
the hottest br girl is Nao from BR II, from BR I, it would definetly be mitsuko
Okkkay... I don't know (or care) which one of the girls was the hottest in either of the movies.. BRII was interesting and amusing entirely for the backhanded jab at America and Bush... *sniff* classic.
My fave character in BRI was Kinato Takeshi (I forget the name of his character), but he was just the comic relief in a movie that also was filled with obscure humour (like the classical music playing during Mitsuko's death).
BRII was weak because alot of things didn't make sense, like if you die, why would your female counterpart die too? I can understand a 50 foot rule or something to keep them together, but that was just stupid. That and Taku was pretty generic for a main character. However, once again, my fave character was Sensei. Talk about out of his mind...
I know, I noticed my Typeo as soon as I posted it.. and Chigusa.. right.. she was the insane one. (Didn't the actress that played her appear in Kill Bill?)
I know Sensei is Japanese for teacher - I just couldn't remember if they called him by his actual name in the movie.. maybe the president did or something, but I can't remember.

depends on your terms of insanity. i would say that chigusa and mitsuko are crazy, due to the fact of mitsuko's sociopathic tendencies, and chigusa's "stabbing-of-the-genitals"
