    Mouse problems

OK, my mouse has started having problems. First off, it commonly stops working completely and then I have to restart to get it to work. Also, while it is working, it will jump a little bit occasionally and other times it will open up right click menus or click things if I scroll over them. I've tried updating the driver, it is already updated. Scanned the computer for viruses, spy ware, ad ware, etc... I cannot figure out what may be the problem. Obviously, this is very annoying. Oh yeah, if it matters, it's an optical PS/2 mouse. If anyone can help at all, please do.

      Re: Mouse problems

Eh sorry, I meant restart the computer, not the mouse.

Well, yeah I could buy a new one. But that would require me getting money XD and it doesn't seem to necessarily be the mouse, maybe something on the computer since I've had this mouse for months and had no problems.

Until now when you happen to be having problems.

I mean I've had no problems with my mouse for years but if it suddenly started doing that I'd think the mouse needed to be replaced, I wouldn't be blaming the computer.

Best way to check is to see if you can borrow a mouse from someone and check if it works fine on your PC. If it does then you need a new mouse. If it does the same as your current mouse then you need to sort your PC out.

          Mice die rather quickly.

Mice are cheap. They're like 50$.

The easiest way to check if it's the mouse or the computer is to borrow a friend's and test. What is the mouse connected to your computer by?

Well, it was a really cheap mouse, so it may be that. Also, it's a PS/2 mouse, not a USB mouse, so it is in the port in the back. And, yes, I know that a USB mouse is probably a better idea, so I may get one of them instead.

If it is a wireless mouse, try changing the batteries. If not, try cleaning the lens and buttons. If nothing works, your best bet would be to buy a new one.

                    Re: Mouse problems

I have a GE wireless optical mouse that I bought in 2004 for about $20. It still functions, but jumps every now and then. I plan on replacing it.

So, sente3, just buy a new one. The average lifespan of a computer mouse is 1 year. Which excludes the super-fancy gold-plated fifty-dollar mouse that Midday would buy. :O

EDIT: If you can't afford much, I was just in Wal-Mart earlier today, and plain old ball mice are $4.99.

Crashfan, yeah I'll probably just get another relatively cheap one if this one keeps it up.

and Midday, wow you must either love mice or just have money to spend. But, I bet that will almost never give you problems.

I just got a mouse because my old one's scroller suddenly stopped working after 4 years of working perfectly fine.

                            Wee bump maybe? ehh.
anyways, after SO many different things, from software to hardware changes, I found that none of these have worked and was going to try my luck at a new mouse. Then I, for some reason, put my mouse on a flat surface instead of the cruddy mouse pad that we've had for years. BAM, it's yet to do anything weird. Maybe it is just a very odd coincidence, but it seems to have worked. So I simply have the mouse on the top of my tower lol cuz that's the nearest flat surface and it seems to work..weird..
