    Re: Question regarding computers

You haven't really given enough information so I'll just give you multiple solutions:

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedt32, and then click OK.
    3. In the Registry Editor window, locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Mup
    4. In the right details pane, double-click DisableDFS.
The DFS client is turned off if the value in the Value data box is 1.
The DFS client is turned on if the value in the Value data box is 0.
    5. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box that appears, type 0 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    6. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

Check your system log to see if the user or workstation is authenticating correctly

There is a scripts/startup folder in the default domain policy. After deleting the files under scripts -> startup and entering gpupdate /force in the cmd window, all users are connected to their network shares with the expected permissions

Local area connection> properties>configure>power management> un-check (allow the computer to turn off this device to save power)/ ok

      Re: Question regarding computers

Okay. Well, it's a drive called drive (L). I remember seeing that.

It said that it was already disconnected, so i d/c'd again, hoping that i'd reconnect, and it'd work, but after i d/c'd, it just dissapeared.

      Also, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Mup doesn't exist...

        Re: Question regarding computers

I just CAP'd things from google from five minutes of looking.

The other thing I found was sometimes XP will disconnect drives if they haven't been used in a set amount of time, this will rectify itself.

Though if you then messed with it and it disappeared there may be a problem but I mean just try to google it and see what you can come up with.

            Vista or XP?

I found this on a tech forum.

Never mind ... seconds after I posted this I saw the network settings where private .. i changed them to public and re-enabled file sharing and network discovery and voi'la! It's there!

XP, this is also an ASUS laptop, if that helps.

Also, link me to that tech forum.

                Re: Question regarding computers

                Try this:

Open My Computer, click Tools, and select Map Network Drive.

Click L: in the drive or you might have to type it in. Then see if that works.

A mapped drive is a shortcut to the specific drive on a different device that enables you to access resources shared on a local network, or files on a FTP server or website. It looks just like the shortcut on your local hard drive with its own letter, even opening as though it were on

                  Re: Question regarding computers

Says: The specified network name is no longer available...so what does that mean in other words?

                    Re: Question regarding computers

Give it some time and see if XP brings it back.

If not just switch to using a different drive.
