    IP Address

    When an internet connection fails to renew an IP Address, what usually causes the problem? The router, the ISP server, or something else?

    How can you tell?

    Yes, I am currently fervently attempting to restore my internet capabilities for the FFR tournament, and to get all of my unrecorded scores recorded, and to play Touhou online, and to play SMO. =l help please.

    Details:
    SBG900 Wireless SURFBoard Gateway Router
    -when connected via wireless, average speed=54.0MBps, tends to gradually decrease to 1.0MBps in a matter of minutes.
    -when connected via Ethernet cable, average speed=100MBps, no decrease
    -in both cases, connection sometimes fails to renew IP Address, which allow no connection
    -IP Address is lost over 100 times everyday, but lasts for 5 seconds or less. there are times where IP Address is rendered unrenewable for hours.

    ISP=Optimum Online
    no DSL Modem or Cable

    I'd have to say it could be the router, I've had that problem before. Or it could be your ISP. shed more light on the problem

      Re: IP Address

      It happens to me a lot, has to do with my wireless network, sometimes something else can conflict with the IP (for example: My DS or my dads PC), when it happens the easiest thing to do is just turn the network off for 10 seconds then turn it back on, should work fine again.

        ^^ used to happen to me, if you unplug your internet, all the cables and leave it off for 15 mins then turn it on it should (and did for me) work fine. Depending on what ISP you have.

          My internet fails way too frequently. If I have to reset my network every 30 minutes or so, I can't sustain SMO, or Touhou online.

            Ah, didn't realise it was so frequently. Mine usually only happens the odd time. You may have to check it out with your ISP. They could be limiting usage and you're going over it somehow which causes them to cut you off.

              Re: IP Address

              If your network connection only shows an exclamation symbol over the network connection symbol when you're having connection problems, then your router is fine and has something to do with the router's connection to internet access. If an X is over the network connection symbol, then there's a problem with connecting to the router.
