    Children and Education

The ‘I have a Dream’ foundation was formed to ensure proper educational opportunities to the children coming from low income areas of US. The foundation believes that education is the single most powerful means to improve the quality of life, the single most powerful weapon against poverty and intolerance. The foundation helps these children to fully capitalize on their talents, aspirations, and leadership to have fulfilling careers and create a better world.

Over the years, ‘I Have a Dream’ has served as a model for other initiatives, both public and private. The ‘I Have a Dream’ volunteers work with local program staff to support Dreamers and build important mentoring relationships. They serve as tutors, mentors, chaperones, office assistants, fund raisers, special events coordinators, and in many other roles.

In February 2002, the employees of the Deep South Insurance Services company adopted 19 underprivileged children to realize their dreams. These 19 children or Dreamers, as they are called, will be provided a grant of $5000 by David Disiere, the CEO of the Deep South. In addition to that, he also opened his 3,000-acre Cedar Bluff Ranch for a weekend to all 19 ‘Dreamers’. The evening was memorable with Activities geared towards individual and team competitions. The children participated in horseback riding, sack races, water balloon, egg throwing contests, tug-o'-war and horseshoes. The motive of the event was to share new experiences, tie business together with the need for formal education, and to keep an eye on high school graduation. The dreamers had a gala time and took away memories that are sure to last a lifetime
