AVG. Go to download.com and download the AVG Free Edition, then go to spybot.com and download Spybot Search and Destroy. Only things you'll ever need ;D
rrrrrr popups keep poping up telling me to install antispyspider, or somthing like that!
Pop ups that pop up and tell you to download "antispyspider" are probably spyware.
And at Fido...dude, you don't need to re format. Just run a scan in safe mode and youll be set.
Oh my computer was like that a year ago! It was annoying cause they kept popping up at annoying times, you can do one of three things.
1) Reformat your computer
2) Move the pop-up to the far corner of your screen. Several pop-ups come up, but they STACK on top of each other, meaning you have it in the corner, they will stay in the corner!
3) *MOST RECOMMENDED* Change your operating system to Linux/Kubuntu/Ubuntu/Gutsy. There is NEVER any spyware or malware, and it runs way faster. The down side? There is none! Plus, it is free of charge!
Batteries not included. May include increase of speed while playing Flash Flash Revolution and other positive side effects.

You guys act like formating your computer is the only way to solve the problem. If you know where the trojan horse (or whatever you have) is on your drive, you can manually delete it from the registry in safe mode. Even easier, run a spyware scan with the programs I listed in my first post while you're in safe mode.
That should solve the problem.
tl;dr
If you did a scan but the pop ups didn't go away (or it's still running slow or whatever you symptons were), run the scan in safe mode. It's pretty easy.
I had this same problem..This week. As one of the above people said, get AVG. It worked wonders for me...As to the task manager being blocked? I dunno, I still can't use it. :s
Another thing, alot of the Anti Virus software out there is crap. Even the expensive stuff you have to buy ( Example: Norton really ****s with your internet connection and port settings avoid Norton). AVG Free Edition works like magic. It's like the number 1 download on download.com.
Just get it. I'm telling you it works if you use it properly. If you don't find the problem the first time, run the scan in safe mode.
