Re: Helpful Internet Tips for Parents
When I have a kid I'm going to give them one rule for the internet and one rule only: Don't look at porn, I don't need viruses on the computer.
I think the next generation of parents who spent all this time on the net will have a better understanding of what its like thus knowing the signs of when they are up to something.
Plus, parents of this age don't know how to check the history of what websites kids are going on.Comment

Re: Helpful Internet Tips for Parents
Spend time with your children online. Have them teach you about their favorite online destinations.
I mention most sites I visit.
Talk to your child about sexual victimization and potential online danger. Explain that whatever they are told online may or may not be true.
It's drilled into my mind.
Teach your children never to give out personal information such as their name, home address, school name, or telephone number to anyone they meet online.
Only to people I have talked to for a while ( more than a month, for sure )
Keep the computer out of your child's bedroom. Put it in a common room like the kitchen or living room.
Oops.
Do not install webcams. It is dangerous to put images on the Internet.
Oops x2
Create your own profile and search for your child's social networking page. Talk to your child about what information is appropriate to post on their page. See who they are associating with online.
If my dad could even do that...
Instruct your children never to arrange a face-to-face meeting with someone they met online.
**** that.
Never allow your children to send a picture of themselves to someone they chat with on the computer.
Oops x3
Monitor the amount of time spent online -- especially at night.
Oops x4
Be mindful of your child receiving phone calls from men you don't know or making calls, sometimes long distance, to numbers you don't recognize.
Sorry, Adam.
You might be an internet predator.

Hello sir, I am a representative from eBay.
Um, ok. May I help you?
Yes, I am going to need some more information. What is your social security, work hours, sperm count, sexual orientation, and hours of absence from your home?

Re: Helpful Internet Tips for Parents
Only rule with my kids will be: "Kid, if you want illegal programs or porn, tell me, and I'll download it for you. That way you get what you and I don't get viruses."
And yeah I fail at them all. xDComment

Re: Helpful Internet Tips for Parents
When I have kids I'll be a COOL parent because I UNDERSTAND WHAT IT'S LIKE.
Bull****. If you're decent enough to call yourself a parent you'll WANT to be involved in your kid's life and you'll definitely want to make sure your kids aren't being solicited online.
Hell yes I'm gonna be my kids' myspace and facebook friends.
Also, holy crap let's post another "grownups think they understand the interwebs" news article thread.Comment

Re: Helpful Internet Tips for Parents
Im assuming Zaergon is being sarcastic. When I have kids during the younger years I will be very strict about the internet and will be doing alot of monitoring. Once they are mature enough to surf the net on there own ill start to let go.Orbb fan club.
