8mbps download speed isn't too shabby. What's the upload speed look like? I'm guessing about 512kbps, which isn't too shabby either if that's what it is.

Actually he would be very happy to get that, although 8mbps won't get you 1.2, the math just doesn't work.

The most he could get is 1MB down, most likely not though. Chances are his actual download rate would be in the mid 800's after you account for all the overhead.

Hell, I have 16Mbps at my house and I rarely hit 1.2MBps.

You just have to remember that you are limited to the server you are connecting to.

Yeah, I was being optimistic assuming: rural area, very close to provider, excellent server etc etc.

If you get 8mbps it won't be 800kb/s. It'll be more around 768kb/s max, which you probably won't hit often at all because you have to add in distance to where you're pinging to. Packet loss from the distance, etc causes you to probably drop off to about 650-720kb/s with a 8mbps download speed.

P.S. This was my last result to a place within 50 miles of me.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 15773 kbps (1971.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 14992 kbps (1874 KB/sec transfer rate)

Not too shabby I might say .
