Re: Need help with a not-so-easy subtraction problem.
I think you are setting the problem up wrong...they don't have 9 dollars each, they have 1 each.
1x3=$3 (total for three people)
+2 for the bellhop=$5
+$25 they needed for the room at the new reduced price=$30.
Then again, I'm not really sure what the question is asking. -
Re: Need help with a not-so-easy subtraction problem.
When they say to give back the $5, it means they still have 10$ each because they got the 5$ as a refund. With the money the bellhop has, he gives each of them 1, with 33$ total, and 2$ for him.
11 Per person = 33
Bell hop gets = 2
Altogether = 35.
I think that's right. I'm not sure.
I'm pretty sure it isn't, but who knows?
Maybe start with 35 instead of 30. Because they didn't take 5$ out of their money, it was from the refund.
... I probably sound mentally insane right now. o.o;
I suck. 83;Comment

Re: Need help with a not-so-easy subtraction problem.
Your adding the wrong things.
You give 30$.
Room becomes 25$.
He gives you each person 1 dollar (1*3=3)
He keeps 2 dollars.
25 + 3 + 2 = 30.
There is no mysterious dollar LOL.
I did this a while ago on some iq test. The question tricks you into adding the qrong things.

This problem is a classic, you could have probably found it on the internet. It's funny how messed up logic can distort such a basic question though =)Sick natureComment
