IRS E-mail Scam
Taxpayers have a lot to worry about, now scammers are adding to that list. A Houston couple fell victim to a phishing scam recently. They had just filed their taxes electronically when they got an email claiming to be from the IRS. They opened the email and found they were due an extra $129.72. They followed the links that had the IRS logos on it and they gave out Social Security, Debit Card, and PIN numbers. The next day they went down to the IRS office and learned the whole thing was a scam. The IRS NEVER contacts taxpayers by email and the agency will NEVER call your home or business either.
If you get an email or phone call claiming to be from the IRS, go here to report it.
