There has been this rumor going around about an asteroid passing the Earth at about 12:33 am PST and I was wondering if this was true or not.
Asteroid?

Re: Asteroid?
Apparently, it's only around 800 feet wide and is going to pass 334,000 miles from the planet at its closest point.

Re: Asteroid?
All you need to know mainly in the forums.
This asteroid doesn't look to be good for us. Impact chances are low, but magnetic interferences can cause catastrophic events.
Noticed any weird weather recently?Comment

Re: Asteroid?
Sorry for double post. It's 500,000 km, which is a bit farther than miles.
It's 100,000 km from the moon (not in between moon and earth's orbit), so it's not very close at all.Comment

Re: Asteroid?
Southern California has gotten a lot of rain, snow and wind recently. I also lose power anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours in the last four days.http://www.tu24.org

Re: Asteroid?
David Blaine, you need to get your facts straight, lol.
miles > km. not the other way around.
I meant that anything under 500,000 miles is considered a VERY near impact by scientific and astronomy community. Think about it in comparison to the width of the solar system or even the radius of the planet's orbit (93 MILLION).
And I didn't mean that the asteroid was actually about 500,000 miles away; it's 500,000 km as you said and as I said. (334,000 miles is the equivalent)Last edited by ledwix; 01-29-2008, 12:47 AM.Comment

Re: Asteroid?
I was interested for a few seconds until I read:
I'm not going anywhere if that's the case. **** that.At its nearest, the asteroid will reach an approximate apparent magnitude 10.3, or about 50 times fainter than an object visible to the naked eye in a clear, dark sky.Comment
