    Math problem for credits 2!!!

    So it turns out the original problem wasn't written right. I have also found out the answer, but I am still stumped at how to get it. Turns out MrRubix was incorrect in finding it, even though it seems right to me considering when i checked it the answer was right...ANNNYYWHOOO
    The actual equation is as follows...

    log8(3x^2 - 35.33x + 262216.88)^.5 = 3

    supposedly,
    One answer is 911.

    again it is log base 8.
    ^ indicate a power function.

    1000 credits to get to this answer or one that mimics it in some way.
    GL

    note: answers 6688.093936 and -6676.31727 are incorrect even though that is what seems to work within the equation.

    mimics it in some way.

    log8(3x^2 - 35.33x + 262216.88)^.5-3 = 0

      Working on it....please wait.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      log8(3x^2 - 35.33x + 262216.88)^.5 = 3
      .5log8(3x^2 - 35.33x + 262216.88) = 3
      log8(3x^2 - 35.33x + 262216.88) = 6
      8^6 = (3x^2 - 35.33x + 262216.88)
      0 = 3x^2 - 35.33x + 72.88
      x = (35.33 +- sqrt(35.33^2-4*3*72.88))/6
      x = (35.33 +- sqrt(373.6489))/6
      x = (35.33 +- 19.33)/6

      x1=9.11 x2=8/3

              Which one? Makes a big difference.

              If I was to solve it I would put the correct one of those equations into my Graphics calulator and the line y=3. Then hit intersect. You should be able to get all the values that way.

              If you tell me which equation I can try and do the algerbraic approach when I get back from my calculus exam.

              Edit: Freaking ninja'd.

              Did you ever give Rubix his credits?

                its the bottom one windsurfer.

                and...yes :'(, but it did seem right, but I should have realized the log was out of the sqrt so it was not possible to just square it out. oh well 2k credits gone.

                EDIT: also i need to rephrase, MrRubix was correct minus some rule of logs that was misinterpreted. Otherwise it was 100% right.

                        Ah I misinterpreted how you wrote it the first time. What I did was technically correct given my assumptions with the square root. The way you write logs out make a big difference.

                        Again see my other solution with the explanation up top describing why the difference is important.

                          This really didn't need to be a new thread.
