could it have something to do with the fact that there really isn't a fully functioning graphics card supporting DirectX10 yet?
Just get at least 2 gigs of ram and wait for vista sp1, then you should be fine.Back to "Back to Earth"

yes, they are compatible. I said fully support. Perhaps a better way to phrase it is that the new graphics cards, although proficient at running vista, are going to have difficulty dealing with the software of third party vendors (i.e. flash).Back to "Back to Earth"

DirectX 10, unlike previous versions of DirectX, requires that any graphics card bearing its name supports everything in DirectX 10.
In other words, yes there are graphics cards that fully support DirectX 10. Lost Planet and BioShock are amazing with my 8600 GTS at full everything at 1920 x 1200.
And Organism, shut up. All you're doing is flaming everyone in this thread. Granted, a lot of people in this thread have no idea what they're talking about. If you remember back, XP had as many if not more flaws than Vista when it was first released.
EDIT: And for everything talking about memory, Aero is not the main memory user of Vista. Vista's prefetching component caches your most used programs and preloads them at startup. Isn't there a way to make it all look like XP again? I mean, I have XP but it looks like all the older versions of Windows. When I finally get a new computer that will undoubtedly come with Vista, I'll prolly get it to look as much like <WinXP as possible. I don't need a flashy OS. Hell, I purposely close explorer.exe all the time because it's useless sometimes but decides to lag up my whole computer.
PS: Tokzic, in case you didn't do it all right, you have to calibrate the voice recognition stuff to understand your voice. Like, I tried it one time on XP and it had you read these stories to train it. If you try to use somebody else's trained voice recognizer it fails pretty hard. =\So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(
In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.
So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.
Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =OComment

Aero uses a fair bit of CPU & GPU resource, which undoubtedly affects running applications compared to XP (especially windowed graphics apps). It's driver model is difficult for hardware manufacturers, which makes for problematic drivers (hard to know whether to blame MS or the cheapo hardware companies for this) - leads to instability on many machines. Suggested performance advatages seem fairly specious. DirectX10 is nice, but pure BS marketing for it to be Vista only. Not to mention that Vista phones home a hell of a lot, and is stuffed with DRM.
Vista needs a year or so before becoming a mature, generally useful OS. I would avoid for the moment - use a dual boot if necessary...Last edited by MRichards; 09-10-2007, 11:08 PM.
