    Technical assistance requested.

So, my parents use whatever the latest version of IE is on their PC. This version features tabbed browsing, but on occasion, if you try to open a new tab rather than opening a new window, IE just closes.

I'm certain this is a simple fix, and I'm curious if any of you knows how to do it.

PS: don't advise me to install a different browser. This isn't my computer, so I'm not installing anything new AND just ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away.

Reinstall it and see if it gets fixed?

So, no Firefox? There goes my only real idea. I'd suggest contacting whoever makes IE and ask them.

Actually, you're running more instances of the program.

I'm not sure what to suggest. I don't use IE. I wouldn't be surprised if support.microsoft.com had a fair amount of literature on IE's failures, though, so that might be your best bet on a quick fix.

Yeah, when I searched "tabbed browsing" on support.microsoft.com, I got an article that basically put tabbed browsing in the dumbest terms imaginable.

PS I'll bet it's just a glitch they'll have to fix later.

I can't believe anybody uses IE voluntarily.

                        Re: Technical assistance requested.

I have both IE and FF, and I use IE most of the time. I used to be a big FF fan, but I really haven't had many problems with IE lately. I know all the security holes and overall issues with IE, so don't preach to me about how one is better etc, I guarantee I already know any argument you're going to make. I use IE because it is the most convenient browser in terms of universal recognition and integration.

Stretchy: I'm pretty sure a simple reinstallation of the IE browser should take care of the problem, because IE7 isn't really known for having too many issues with it's tabbed browsing.

                          true.

what you could do is install firefox and set IE as the default browser. this way nothing will be changed with IE and you can use firefox whenever you want. links from outside places will still open in IE.

                            Stop being such firefox bandwagoners.

News alert: Firefox isn't that much better than IE, and for some people, it's actually worse.

PS: IE still has about 95% of the browser market, so I'm sure all the companies will go the extra effort to make their pages FF special.

                            Not.
