Weapons and the force applied with them

Just a question on a few things.
By the way, this has nothing to do with the police force. It has to do about medieval/feudal weapons. By feudal, I mean Feudal Japan.

OK, In real life, does a katana have the ability to slice open a clothed person? I just thought about it. I put a fabric over a Dummy I have, and tried slicing through it with my katana. I cut through it, but I noticed that a lot of force had to be used.

I know that I had to cut through ( fabric that was used was ) denim, but if they really had to use sharp weapons to slice through padded armor (Back then), then everyone was considered strong!

I do take stabbing as an effect, but lets keep with slicing.

Yes. A Katana when sharpened can cut threw a clothed person easily. When done properly the force applied to the katana is less then the force of the impact. So, you don't really have to apply that much force (though some is required) to the katana.

Yeah it turns out that samurai did use a lot of force when hitting people with swords.
