In all seriousness, I feel like if you're mature and responsible, you just know when the time is right. My parents were married less than a year after they met, and they've stayed together for over 25 years. It's a matter of where you and the other person are in life, and where you want to go, and can you get there supporting a spouse?

something along those lines. *shrugs* do whatever you want. nobody else can really tell you what the best decision for you is. Whorli and I started dating about 4-5 days after we met. We've been together for just under 4 years. We've been living together for over 2 years. We have no plans to get engaged or marry in the next few years. We're both more concerned with her getting through school and me getting situated in a career. Not to mention we just moved cross country, but only plan to stay for 2 years.

I'm personally going to wait until I know I can support a family. No sense in committing your life to someone if all you can do is barely scrape by. I definitely don't want to have to rely on government aid, so I'm not making any huge moves until I get out of college and have a good job with decent pay.

Everybody says it depends on the couple, but there's a whole bunch of other dimensions that aren't directly related to the relationship, like above, that needs to be considered. Asking a question like this also implies that you want to wait for a date where you think it's been long enough; it's long enough when you can confidently say so without asking that question.

I've I'm still with my current girlfriend, a year or two tops, before asking, 3 before the deed is done. If I have to start over, probably won't happen until I'm about 30

2-3 years. Early marriages usually don't work out well.
