    Stupid Mass-produced Comps

so, i havent been online for a couple days. wanna know why? well, the harddrive on my university supplied IBM R40 laptop decided it was going to fry itself. no, i didnt have kazaa or any of that crap that would overload it or anything, i had SM and a couple of other things. but whatever. i'm not bitter about the CRAP that ibm makes.

meanwhile, not the point. i lost all of my SM files because of the crash. there was no chance of recovering them because the computer wouldnt even read the C or D drives with a boot disk. so, if anyone wants to post links to good SM files, i'd appreciate it.

Just out of curiosity, what led to the computer "frying" it's own hard drive? What events led up to it?

    Cheers,

thanks destruction, thats where i got a majority of the ones i had. i was hoping more for specific songs that people knew were good. sorry, should have been clearer about that.

synth... i had had problems with the harddrive since i got the computer. at times, after leaving the comp on for a while, i would come back to a black screen that said, among other things, "operating system not found", which i thought was a little bit strange. but in that case i would just restart the computer and it would start up fine. other times the computer would freeze and the harddrive would start making a whining sound, and i basically had to take the battery out to make it stop. one night a few days ago i came back to my room to find my screen displaying the black screen with the same message on it, but when i tried to restart it this time it simply went back to that screen, and the harddrive began to click at a constant rate. so, i took it to the IT guys here at school, and they tried to recover some of my stuff with a boot disk, but couldnt access any of the drives even with that. i asked if it was a common problem, the guy came back with some smart comment about having kazaa on my comp (which, like i said, i didnt) and then he replied with something to the effect of "these harddrives are cheap. lots of companies make them, and make lots of them." so i get the feeling its a pretty common problem. but oh well. i'm getting a new harddrive for it today or tomorrow.

Very sorry to hear that. I have some stuff that may be harder to find if you are more into the DDR style songs. If you need some I'm sure we could figure out some way I could give 'em to you. PM me if you are interested and I could give you a list of what I have to see if you want any of it.

Sucks, man. I know how that is...it's why consumer based computer companies like Dell make everyone think they're getting this great deal by providing them with a $500 computer, monitor, printer, speaker deal, when in reality everything they give you is crap. The reason the public goes along with it is because they're misinformed about what is actually good in a computer, and what you're really paying for. It's like how they stick Celeron processors in computers and charge people $500 more to bump a 2.7 GHz up to a 3.0 and everybody's like 'Oh, its so worth it man!'
