Do we really need this?

People in the later years of education often ask this. "When are we ever going to need this in the real world?"

Honestly, I don't have an answer. At my age, it does seem like we will never need this, but I have no way of knowing. This is why I am posting this, to get all of your thoughts, old or young.

You will never need it, unless your job uses it.

Math/Science -- you need it if you become a scientist, engineer, mathematician, etc.

If you become a normal business person/ worker, then I guess it will help you get a job. :s Looks good on a résumé.

The point of education is less about the raw information and more about teaching you how to think.

Math may not be a part of your job or any useful skill in the real world, but making you learn how to do it builds logical thinking skills.

Education aims to help people learn to think critically and be intelligent members of society. Whether or not it's effective in this goal is another question.

Well, the way I see it is that I don't think i will ever need this because all that i hope i ever need to know how do use a computer.

The way I see it, a lot of stuff like history, we only remember a lot of major events in later years, but never the minor ones. We're taught the minor ones and expected to recall them for the purpose of developing memory skills.
