    DC++???

    I decided to play FFR today, (I usually play SM), I went into the lobby (I like MP better than SP) and I saw Twinclones in the user list. I thought this is odd because hes an old veteran and like me, does alot more SMing than FFRing. So I greeted him with a pm, "Sup". We then got into a conversation about FFR. I then remembered that I had been looking for Zagh's pack (I'm starting to appreciate his files more after sharpening my skills) so I asked "Do you have Zagh's pack?" He replied "No, but you can check dc++." "What is that", I replied. And then we got into a conversation about dc++ and what exactly it does. I decided to try it out. So i visit the site http://www.dcpp.net and press the download section on the main menu after reading the front page. And I download the installer (Stable version). After installing the program, I opened up and after allowing it past my firewalls, this came up ... ( see Screen shot at bottom of post.) Twinclones said that on my connection the program might not run smooth or at all ... so I decided to just forget about it. Later I decided to browse the forums and stumbles upon this topic. I noticed "c++" which then reminded me of "DC++" and I thought maybe someone here could help me out with this program.

    P.S. I tried reading the help txt. and it was far too complicated for someone whos never used the program before

    P.P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong topic, it seems like a convenient place to say it.

    Re: DC++???

    Hah! I used to use DC++ all the time to get full albums. It's a great p2p system! Lots of foreign hubs to explore the music of.

    That error is sort of wierd; Try uninstalling and reinstalling it, and also see if there might be anything in the options about generating a certificate. Does it at least give you access to the hub list?

      Re: DC++???

      Found this error on a P2P help site in regards to a similar question:

      The DC++ error messages can be ignored , the TLS function is not yet supported / live . I got confirmation of this from a Moderator on the official DC++ forum .
      Can't help with your other P2P problems , but at least you can dismiss the DC++ non-problem from the equation .
      On a side note, our school's internal p2p network is run on DC++, it's a wonderful thing.

        I guarantee you it's not run by your school, hahaha

          Re: DC++???

          Of course not, I guess a better way to state it would be "the predominant p2p running on the school's Intranet is DC++."

              If you can ignore the error, do you have access to the hub list? Try clicking the hub button at the top left and see if anything comes up.

                It'd be really cool if people would learn to hold alt when hitting printscreen. -___-
                So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

                In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

                So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
                And I write the blog for their website.

                Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

                  Re: DC++???

                  Ok, I will try to help. DC++ is a great P2P program, it's just a little complicated to get running. When i start mine, i get the exact same error. It still works anyways. The first step is to open up the setting and go to the Connection Settings. Inside that area click the bubble that corresponds to Firewall [passive, last resort]. This is the easiest to use because trying to directly connect uses a lot more..complicated stuff..as in I cant get it to work for me =(. That was for incoming. On the outgoing part just leave it to direct connect. As for the rest of the settings, it's pretty easy to figure out. Now in the main interface of the program click the hubs list. A ton of hubs should start popping up, but sometimes the default hublist is really gay, so if it doesn't work, try some of these others: http://home.bandicoot.nl/adchublist.xml.bz2
                  When asking a question, remember to ask it in English only. Also, please mention your operating system and your DC++ version. Don't forget to mark your questions as Open if you didn't find out your answer.

                  http://hub2list.no-ip.com/PublicHubList.xml.bz2 (<-- works best for me)

                  To add the hub lists, click on configure in the hub list page and just add them

                  After connecting to a hub just use the search command and browse away =) The rest of the features of the program you can probably find out yourself easily enough.

                  If it still doesn't work..then I apologise because I tried my best to help ya =/
