Itunes For Portable Device?

I'm confused do I have to have itunes installed on my computer to upload a song from my computer to an mp3 player/i-pod?Can't I just sync with my windows media player?

I think ITunes is the only thing you can use to sync your ipod.

Itunes only works with Ipod.

Other mp3 players work with Windows Media Player.

So that means if I have an mp3 player, all I have to do is plug it in the slot then snyc and it will work?
