Alright so I've been playing the guitar for about a year and a half now, and I'm self taught. I just can't seem to get any better...especially when it comes to solo's or "sweep" picking and scales...is there anyway to get better at these...or a good site because, I cant find any that are good and free. I practice a lot so I dunno...

Re: Guitar People
Just wanted to point out that Jimi Hendrix was self-taught.
You need to lock yourself up and just practice the hell out of it. To get better than good at something you have to dedicate yourself completely. He who angers you conquers you. ~Elizabeth Kenny -

I had the same problem. Play metal. Youll find yourself get better alot fasterAlright so I've been playing the guitar for about a year and a half now, and I'm self taught. To be able to even "decently" sweep an arpegio you have to train your fingers to bend in the pattern your trying to sweep. It was hard to learn because you really have to time the actual sweep and your finger movement over the fretboard has to be perfect
Hope that helps atleast somewhatComment

Re: Guitar People
If you want to learn how to play the guitar, don't use tabs.I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.Comment

Re: Guitar People
I laughed Jewpin.
It's because Metal is an extremely easy genre to play on the guitar.
I've played and self-taught for about 6 months. At first I enjoyed tabs, but I realized that in order to get to where I wanted to be, I'd need to get a god handle on Music Theory. Luckily, my school offered a class, (Your school might) and the teacher was an experienced guitar player, which made the connection a bit easier.
I practice probably around 2 hours a day. Scales, arpegios, general fingering and execution, chord transitions, and then just some fun fool around type stuff.
I suppose the best way to answer your question is keep practicing, which I know isn't what you are looking for. My next suggestion is to learn how to read sheet music and understand Music Theory if you already don't, as it makes it a lot easier.Comment
