Re: 5th anniversary.
This post is 100% full of stupid.
I was in AP chem when it happened, and nobody knew what to think. The teacher just came in and said something about how "the news is showing something about planes flying into the twin towers." So, we sat around and watched the TV, neglecting our lab for a period and a half.
Today I had a PDEs exam and class as usual. Other than my favorite radio show host broadcasting from NYC, I didn't hear much about it at all.
I don't think we've forgotten at all, though. There has to be a time where you move on, and five years is a good long while. We've dealt with the response, changed how we view terrorism, and become more dedicated to national security and world security. We'll always have a deep, dark scar where we were grievously injured, and we'll see that scar every day. There's really no reason to shut down the country for a day of remembrance. Just consider how we celebrate the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombings.
