Yes, it feels odd having a handheld device that crushes your desktop in terms of harddrive space. I have about $300 to spend, and I don't particularly care about the amount of space, but I want to have a lot of ram. My friend has 2 gigs of ram, and I love the amount of stuff he can do all at once. I know that I definitely won't get that much for $300, but would looking around my local Wal-mart or Best Buy or something turn out something like this?
Or this computer not good in any way? I'm horrible with computers.
That's decent. Definitely a huge step-up from what you have. I don't like AMD processors (bad experiences with their performance and such), but they may have gotten better since I used them. Go for it.
Oh, and if you want to buy brand name, go with HP. Gateway sucks hard (stuff breaks, CS is terrible), and once you buy a Dell computer, you have to buy Dell parts.

Personally I'd either try to figure out a way to load audio onto it manually via a knoppix livecd or wait for this: http://www.amaroklive.com/
I haven't tried Amarok with my iPod yet but it looks like all the functionality is there. Interface wise, Amarok is pretty similar to iTunes. Unfortunately Amarok will probably not be ported to Windows..ever.
