    Los Angeles brushfires..

I just want to say that they are really out of control... I have been spending the day defending a house from the flames and my respect for firefighters has grown incredibly..

To anyone else in the LA area who is having to deal with the fires, good luck...

No actual fires are around us. We are luckily out of the way of the fires. I had a Band fieldshow competition to go to at Chaffey high school saturday. The ash was just pouring down for the competition.

When busing out there, we went through the smoke cloud. I am not kidding when I say that you could have been in a Mars colony. The sky was red, horizon to horizon. The ground was barren and the the colored sky cast a red glow on everything.

Where I was up near Chatsworth Park, they found some guy running through the hills that said he started the fire, and the search and rescue teams found him but I think they let him go. The other version of this story is some guy fell and needed to be bailed out. I can't tell which is true.

I feel like i've smoked twenty cartons of cigarettes...

You could see a glow from the fire and smoke, and it would just get brighter as they come closer to the top of the hill. Then you see little flickers of flames, then suddenly it just arrives, ten to twenty foot high flames rolling down the cnayons towards where we were. It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

I was talking to someone on IM that was close enough for their car to get covered with ash and get pictures of the fires. Damn that things big. Oh, and one of his friends 5 million dollar houses burned down! Poor kid .

I'm in San Diego. I'm not close to much of it, like 10-20 miles away, but it's smoky as hell and there's ash everywhere. I'm not complaining though, school is cancelled

....But you say you will have boot camp. Does that mean you are insinuating that you have no other future?

I'm rather close to the fires too. There quite a few schools in my area that took a day or two off because of the fires, and my school is hosting 2 football games a day for schools that cant use their stadiums.

QB if you lived where I lived, you would want to get away from here too. But no, the military isnt the only future I could do right now. I could go to college and find a job, but I have been a military brat my whole life and most of my relatives have been in the military, so its in my blood.
