    Computer Troubles

    So my computer won't turn on. Like, when I turn it on, it loads a little and then asks me if I want to launch in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Normal, or Last Configured.

    I've selected each one at least 5 times and everytime it gets to the Windows XP loading screen, it restarts and asks me how I want to launch my computer.

    What the hell is going on???

      When I had this problem, it was caused by the boot.ini being corrupt.

      Look for ways you can get into the Recovery console and see what you can do to repair that. I know all I had to type were four lines in DOS, but I didn't get Safe Mode after a few restarts with my problem.

      Going to work; can't update past that.

          If Squeek's method doesnt work, then you may have to use your system recovery discs, and if you dont have those, find someone who does.

                  That was probably the only way to fix it. When I had that problem the cause was, as Squeek said, the startup files were corrupted. When they reformatted, we lost all programs on the computer. So even though the files were still there, I had to start over in a lot of games i had and reinstall a lot of things.

                              Yeah, well, when I looked around for solutions to my problem, everybody said it was impossible and that I should reformat.

                              One site managed to give me directions on how to fix my problem, and it worked. I still have all my data.

                              In fact, there have been a LOT of times when the only solution I can see online is "reformat", and I've solved the problem without doing so.

                              Go me.
