    Fix Tass' Sound!

So my new computer arrived... and it's fast as lightning.

BUT... my sound isn't working. It is plugged in, turned on... the 2 speakers are connected to the woofer, the woofer is connected to the front output on the soundcard (although there are about 8 other holes on the soundcard).

I went through the troubleshoot on Windows Help, and that wasn't helpful. If you guys can't help, I'll have to call Monarch and get some tech support. But I'd rather you guys helped.

I've never heard of a subwoofer hooked up to a soundcard (but then again, I don't have a subwoofer). Are you sure the speakers don't hook up to the sound card?

The speakers came with the woofer, and only have little prongy things that connect to the woofer.

There is a cable with a light-green input at either end, and we plugged one end into the woofer and one into the computer...both into the matching color-coded holes. No dice. I also laid around in the uncomfortable tinyness behind his itty-bitty desk and shoved the input cable into any number of other holes...none seem to work.

I have creative speakers and subwoofers and had the same problem. On my sound card there was two of each color (for the plug in slots.) I just mixed and matched and eventually it worked. (I had creative speakers though, so yeah.)

I can't think of anything else that would fix it, what about drivers?

Try the obvious. Check if it's muted, check if the speakers are on, check to see if you need to turn the sub ON, etc.

            Pictures would help.

I had to mix and match with my sub woofer too, turns out the color coding on the back of my machine was different than it was with the cables, and if that doesn't work try installing the other driver you have for it (assuming you have two... One for motherboard, and the other for the sound system).

I had a problem like this for a bit too. When I finally got it working it went Speakers -> Sub -> Soundcard. Now, that probably sounds a little stupid, but I had tried, unsucessfully, some other alternatives to this. My big mistake was so obvious that I was laughing when I figured it out. I was trying to play through the computer not through the soundcard. My only suggestion is try playing around with different setups.

Might be a driver issue. Also make sure that on-board sound is disabled in BIOS.

Didn't read the other replies but if it's a dell go to www.support.dell.com, type in your service code, and download drivers. Or go to the your audio card's site and download drivers from there.

It was plugged into the wrong thing, duh.

But since the RIGHT thing was not color-coded OR labeled correctly, I'm really not sure how they expect you to get it right without trial and error.

That, and he's a guy and therefore unwilling to call tech support, so it took forever to figure it out.
