    Fix this problem

That is an imposed $75 fuel surcharge just for this months billing alone. Break it down even further, that fuel adjustment is 50% of what I owe in usage for the month. Or, it is a 1/3 of my bill going to this surcharge.

There are current class action suits posed against the company that all seem to get dismissed as fast as they appear. I have even called my local Public Service Commission to find out that 15 members of their board are on the electrical company's board of directors. In other words, they have no jurisdiction over LIPA (Long Island Power Authority). I have even called and left a message with the state governors office to call me back on this situation. I currently await to hear who has wiggled their way into their system to be able to continue to rob the people of Long Island.

This is extortion. There is no other name for this. If they just increased the kilowatt hour rate, I would not be so upset when I see the bill presented this way. Thing is, LIPA has already met the cap that NY State has set for kilowatt hour rates and this is the only way for them to capitalize on current affair in the US (the war and Hurricane Katrina) so their pockets can be lined further.

Just for the record, the going rate per kilowatt hour is $.1249. Roughly 12½ cents per KWH. Ask your parents how much you pay per KWH and I am willing to bet the average answer will fall about 5 cent lower than we pay. Which really, I have no idea why in comparison we are so much higher than the national average of 7 cents per KWH.
Isn't that like, super illegal? I was curious at what steps could be taken to stop this.

    Re: Fix this problem

Well... clearly it isn't illegal, or the lawsuits wouldn't be thrown out. Or probably they wouldn't do it anyway.

Does it apparently suck? Yea. Is this the full story though? Hard to say. Perhaps there is a less miserly reason why they are doing this.
